Eight is Enough

Another show I really enjoyed back in the day was this one, "Eight is Enough". It was a nice little dramedy that starred Dick Van Patten as the dad of this large family (many years before Jon & Kate...). The oldest son was originally played by Mark Hamill.
I'd say this show is in my top 5 all-time favorites (one guess as to what show holds my #1 spot!). I really enjoyed it in its first run, but it probably does not play so well now. There was a reunion of sorts last month on the Today Show, when a number of cast members appeared.
The most interesting trivia I just learned about the show was that child #3, played by my personal favorite, Laurie Walters, is actually some months older than Betty Buckley, who played her step mother on the show.

Wow, no DVD release for Eight is Enough, huh? Surprising...

When I think of "late 70s", I think of Eight is Enough. ;)

I remember the show as well. Too many kids! Mac hit the nail on the head.

This was one of the few one hour shows to feature a laugh track. Kinda weird. I think the Love Boat did too.

Y a know hwta was weird? "The Waltons'! They always ended the show with everybody in the family saying "good night" to each other! Maybe MPI should have ended that way, with Higgins saying good nite to all his half brothers! Or Thomas Magnum to all his girlfriends spending the night!
