Didn't like it that much.

Nothing special.

Burt Convey was pretty good.

I think the reboot ripped this one. Saw an episode once on a boat and then they were quarantined.

Speaking of quarantine/plagues/viruses... Pretty burned out. Maybe why I didn't like this one much. Find it ridiculous they treated Covid-19 like it was the bubonic plaque and I kept thinking that.

The pretty Asian nurses in the episode perked me up a bit though. :P

MPI: Nehemiah Persoff again.
LOL! Yeah this isn't one to watch when you're on Covid lockdown. Or coming out of Covid lockdown.

Agreed, never been a fan of this one. In fact it's definitely near the bottom of season 6. We already had a bubonic plague story in season 1 ("Face of the Dragon") and I never cared for that one either. I did like that plunge from the helicopter at the end. Pretty cool!

Persoff? Heh, he must have loved coming to Hawaii! :D You'll see more of him. He made 6 appearances total and this was #3.

Another excellent episode.

We see the actor from Grandstand again (I remember liking it and you not so much?).

Loved the scene where the cartoonist was drawing the comic strip as the kid was reading.

Very creative episode. Good stuff.

I wish Danno had said "Don't worry, I'll take care of Judy". I was waiting for it.
This is a very good episode and I’ve seen it many times.

The cartoonist, Tom Hatten, had a Sunday morning kids show for years here in the LA area. He would show Popeye cartoons and draw cartoons in between. I watched it a lot when I was little.

Yep, I heard that he was a real-life cartoonist and had his own show. Even appeared in one of my favorite underrated comedy movies - SPIES LIKE US!

One Big Happy Family

Pretty interesting episode with one creepy family.

Rednecks in Paradise?

Good ending in McGarrett's office.

Great line: "It don't count because they wasn't kin".

Seriously deranged. :P

P.S. I love the The Royal Hawaiian hotel. Always wanted to stay there going through (3 days) to Maui but wifey and I just think it's a waste of money because it's just so expensive now.

Plus we're not into the hoity-toity stuff. We're kinda rednecks ourselves (minus the 'next time lets find a whites only restaurant').

Wait. Did I just admit I'm like this family?

That's 3 superb episodes out of the first 4. Told you season 6 opens with a bang!

This one is a big fan favorite. For good reason. It's also one of the most disturbing. A family of killers who kill for pennies and few dollar bills. The guest cast is outstanding - Barbara Baxley as the matriarch of the family who seems to be calling the shots, Slim Pickens (he's always a hoot!) as daddy, and Bo Hopkins as the son with his slutty wife Rosalie (played by Robyn Millan). Morton Stevens provides a score with a Southern twang to it, with some creepy fiddles and violins. Like you said, this has some fantastic dialogue. The ending in McGarrett's office with Barbara Baxley explaining why they did what they did ("it don't count if they's strangers") is memorable and shocking, leaving McGarrett completely speechless. I also love her racist remarks like when she sees a white and an Oriental dining together. "She's eatin' with an Oriental. Got no shame t'all".

Oh yeah, I love how the episode opens with the Royal Hawaiian ("the Pink Palace") and the priceless reaction of the front-desk guy (Bill Bigelow) to this white trash family. He's thinking man are they in the wrong place!! I was always fascinated by this place too, which is why I strolled through it last time I was on Oahu in 2018. I stayed at the Hyatt Regency. It has pink decorum and carpeting throughout and at night the trees outside are lit by pink projectors. Really cool!

We've tried them all. Outrigger, Marriott, Hilton Hawaiian Village, Hyatt the most. Just never Royal Hawaiian.

We used to stay at the Moana Surfrider as a treat.

Same deal. We just thought why we paying so much to just pass through on our way to our timeshare (which is on the beach and nicer anyway IMHO).

After Hyatt got run down we started staying at the Holiday Inn (think the name changed recently) beside the Marketplace.

Royal Hawaiian is so beautiful we always walk through it though.

P.S. Ivan, suggested before... you're going through the effort to do these awesome reviews.
You should add them to IMDb as long as you're posting them here anyway.

Moana Surfrider is that fancy turn-of-the-century looking one with the nice white columns, right? I always loved its look. Looks like it's for royalty. I half expected a horse and carriage to pull up to the front. Ain't for somebody like me who's likely to confiscate the silverware and towels and toilet paper and other fancy-schmancy doo-dads.

The Outrigger is right next door, correct?

What do you mean passing through to your timeshare? Is that on Maui? If so, why pass through Oahu at all? Sentimental MPI-related reasons?

Hyatt looks nice. When did it get run down?

I don’t think there are a lot of flights direct to Maui, except from west coast cities. My wife’s sister and husband flew from New Jersey. After flying to LA and staying with us, they flew direct to Maui. The other choice was Newark to Honolulu and another flight to Maui.

If so, why pass through Oahu at all? Sentimental MPI-related reasons? Sentimental. From back in the day when I was a teen and you had to fly through HNL. Toronto - Honolulu only. Couldn't fly direct to Maui yet. So we still stop in Waikiki for fun. Tradition.

Hyatt looks nice. When did it get run down?

Just in surface appearance. Dated rooms. Was under major renovations back 4 years (or so ago)

I stayed at the Hyatt 3 years ago (July and August of 2018) and both the hotel exterior and the rooms were just fine. I'm guessing this was after the renovations?

Covid lockdowns have scrambled my brain when it comes to dates.

Was further back.

The Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa Guestroom Renovation began in July 2014

$34.5 million contract to remodel and renovate 1221 guest rooms.

Lasted a few years.

They did restaurants too and aesthetic repairs to lobby, elevators (remember they were getting pretty beat up), etc.

I see. I really enjoyed my stay there. The only thing I didn't like is when you have breakfast buffet there a portion of the dining area is outside so the pigeons swoop in on your food. Those suckers aren't even scared. You can't even leave your table for a second to get something else. The moment you get up they land on your table and start pecking at your food. They leave bird crap all over the tables which, needless to say, is not very appetizing. I saw one of the other hotels (maybe the Hilton Hawaiian Village?) had a netting surrounding their outdoor dining area. I have no idea why the Hyatt can't do that. Is netting really that expensive?? Ridiculous!! But other than that I really enjoyed the hotel. The Marriott was the other one I was considering but ultimately the Hyatt got me with the breakfast buffet included. :D I also want to try the Hilton Hawaiian Village - the Rainbow Tower in particular because it's so iconic, having seen it many times on Five-O.

But actually next time I want to stay outside of Waikiki. Always wanted to try the Kahala Hilton! Love that lagoon with the little island in front of it. Actually it's right next door to the beach that served as the KKC beach bar on MPI. Yep, I'm positive that's where I want to stay next time. :)

Looks super nice.

We live in a small town so the 3 days we spend there we enjoy being right in the thick of things in Waikiki.

A little more action.

Plus our timeshare is in Ka'anapali. We get our relaxing chill time there.

What small town do you live in? In the Bahamas. I visited the Bahamas with family and nieces years ago (on a Disney Cruise) and took a quick stroll through Nassau. We also stopped at Castaway Cay. Really enjoyed it! Was hoping to spot some locations where they shot the Bond movie THUNDERBALL and also was wondering where Sean Connery lived. Do you know the area where he lived?

It's funny that you have to go on vacation to Hawaii when you live in the Bahamas. But I suppose nothing beats Hawaii. Wife and I were in Jamaica for our honeymoon and we loved it, but still... nothing beats Hawaii.
