Thank you for this link, Terry. Kind of a shock to see Bo as an older gent, he was always so youthful.
After viewing this I just had to go watch a Bo Hopkins episode of The Rockford Files.

I tuned in the infamous "The Jersey Bounce" in the vain hope it had somehow improved with age.
Quite the opposite, the supposed Jersey accents the nitwits - both the actors and their characters - employed were even more crap than I had remembered.
The taller nitwit Mickey mentions to his buddy Eugene a restaurant, "Vito's Little Napoli".
Pronouncing the last word "Na-pole-Lie".
Kosher it ain't, the paisans I grew up with  would have slapped Mickey on the forehead and said "stunod, it's Nap-o-lee, like Dino sings it in That's Amore. Whadda idiot."

The only good parts were Bo's scenes, introducing him as Rockford's new legal advisor after Jim's lawyer Beth Davenport had moved on.
How was Sorrell Booke (Boss Hogg) in this episode? I seem to recall he played a lawyer too?
Ivan,
Sorrell Booke was very good as the befuddled lawyer who Beth's old law firm assigned to represent Rockford.
Bo Hopkins did all the legal research and advised him as he had been disbarred.
If you were ever tempted to watch this mess again, just skip past the Mickey/Eugene scenes and watch the Sorrell/Bo/James Garner scenes.
They are pretty good. Garner's helpless reactions to Sorrell's incompetence are entertaining.
Thanks, Dobie. I hear there was a sequel with Mickey & Eugene, was there not? Surely someone wanted to see these Jersey boys again, eh?

The second to last episode Just a Coupla Guys featured them again, and with far more screen time. It was an attempt at a spin-off if I remember correctly. It was not as good as The Jersey Bounce.

Ah, so it appears "The Jersey Bounce" ain't so bad after all. :) If I recall the Coupla Guys episode had Simon Oakland playing a different character than his Vern St. Cloud character. Really lazy casting there, considering that he played Vern in this same season, just a few episodes earlier. Wow. That's like casting Harold Gould as Honore Vashon for a few episodes and then 3 episodes later an entirely different cat. Meow. :?

Chinatown has been nestled into my memory for decades, so much so that any time I see an actor from the film in something else, I practically blurt out, "He was in Chinatown." Thankfully, I don't do this for Hillerman, as I might end up in an institution...

Speaking of Chinatown, I'm in the midst of a 1970s Neo-Noir kick, and have revisited old favorites (Farewell, My Lovely; The Long Goodbye) as well as some long-sought after films (Hickey & Boggs; The Drowning Pool).

Hard luck, loser P.I.s rule! :P

Nice!
Mitchum was great casting as Marlowe, and Altman’s version is one of my favorites too. I still don’t understand how The Long Goodbye was slammed by critics and ignored by audiences at the time.

James Garner also played Philip Marlowe, and he was just as effective as Elliott Gould was in The Long Goodbye. a film I love.

Philip Marlowe is seen as a tough guy, but he's anything but, making the portrayals of Garner and Gould spot-on casting.

I’ve seen Garner in Marlowe more than once. We get to see Rita Moreno and Bruce Lee!

Interesting that you brought up Garner and Gould, because those two films were the first and still only film adaptations of Chandler’s The Little Sister and The Long Goodbye. His other novels had been adapted, some multiple times before either of these were made.

Hey! My favorite S6 TRF episode--Only Rock 'n Roll Will Never Die--has an NBC promo! That's quite a big deal since few people had VCRs in 1979, and even fewer people were watching Rockford's network, NBC.

Nice, thanks!

That’s Casey Kasem voicing the promo, a local DJ at the time and the voice of Shaggy on Scooby-Doo. :D
