Mike, was there some question about who wrote this episode? I don't see Freeman listed as the writer on IMDB. It's definitely Anthony Lawrence. As for the writer of this similar premise in the HAWAIIAN EYE episode it's some totally different writer, not Lawrence. But I do suspect that Lawrence "borrowed" this idea from the HAWAIIAN EYE episode.

A Bird in Hand...

Not great. Kinda slow, boring and predictable.

Saw Agatha Chumley on her way to see Higgy Baby after bird watching. :higgins:

Nothing really stood out as original or cool except the gold in the pineapple cans.

Standard fare.

MPI: Gillian Dobb, Jim Reynolds, Wayne Oxford, George Groves
Knocking my rubber chicken or my sloppy habits is within the rules, but you're attacking my character. I would like to think you don't mean that.

I know that Mr. Mike at one point considered it the absolute worst in the series (not sure if he still does). I never agreed with this because while it ain't great it's far from terrible. In fact there are some pretty good moments, such as when Angie discovers that someone has been in her apartment or when the truck almost runs her and Kimo off the road (shades of Spielberg's DUEL there) and the smuggling of the gold in the pineapple containers, as you mentioned. Even the score by Don Ray is a welcome return after quite a few uninspiring scores this season. I like the idea of a presumed dead criminal getting discovered and then his goons knocking off anyone who may have taken pictures of him. We had something similar to this in season 9's "Double Exposure", with Meg Foster as the photographer who took pics of a presumed dead criminal (a bald Seth Sakai -- he's in this episode too, as one of the victims!). So I don't really have too much of a problem with this episode. It's not one of the bad ones this season. Could have been better though, like "Double Exposure" was. But hey, it's S12.

There's a laughable conclusion where McG breaks out some long-winded poetry about "Gold, gold, gold... you can buy it, you can sell it, you can blah blah blah.... Gold, gold, gold... blah blah blah...". You just can't watch that scene with a straight face. Even Kimo (and whoever else is next to him) look like they just want to tell McG to shut up. We know that McG liked to preach or make some profound statements at the end in the later seasons but this here is a prime example of going waaaay overboard. I know Jack loved poetry but... that was just baaaaaad. Bad poetry, bad timing, bad everything. Maybe McG should just retire and become an English Literature teacher and recite all the bad poetry that he wants.

Oh, you missed Seth Sakai in your MPI connection.

Oh yeah.

Forgot (watched yesterday) and he's not on the main page so overlooked.

Poor Seth. Never overlook Seth.

What do you mean he's not on the main page? Which page? IMDB? He's there.

I found another cat - George Fisher! He was the boxer in MPI's "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" working for Ben Kokua... ahem... Al Harrington. :D But if you click on his name on the Five-O IMDB page he's not linked to the correct George Fisher and is shown to only have 2 credits. That's an IMDB error. The real George Fisher has lots of credits - both as an actor and stuntman.

I meant he's not on the main page and I didn't click 'see all cast'.

This was a lot of effort to explain myself.

Oh, my IMDB page looks different. You can adjust in settings. I don't like the large icons.

Well, I'm glad you explained yourself. :D

The Moroville Covenant

Poor and not very interesting second last episode of the series.

I was kinda lost.

MPI: Paul Burke, Rodney Philip Aiu, John Stalker, Danny Kamekona, Don Pomes,

TOMORROW:

Planning on watching the series finale with popcorn.

No exercise bike, no weights.

Just me in my lounger, paying more than the usual attention, to end my long Hawaii Five-0 run.

Uggh!!! The absolute nadir of the series! There was a time when I would have said that "The Kahuna" was the worst episode of the series. But nope, it's this one! There's that section where Duke (I think) goes to Idaho or Iowa or someplace like that to dig up some info on Paul Burke I think and it's just slow as molasses..... He's just sitting there in some records place just looking over old newspaper clippings. I just recall that section really dragging, as if the rest of it wasn't already really boring. Just a really dull and lifeless episode! Lifeless, yep that's the word to describe it. Eva was a really strange individual and her relationship with Paul Burke just really bizarre. Meh.... what a turkey. :(

Yay!! You're almost there! :D

I won't spoil anything for you but I will say that the finale is MUCH BETTER than...... than.... than..... "The Moroville Covenant".

Yep! :D It took you almost 2 years! The same time it took me to watch about 11 MPI episodes from season 4. :|
