That’s what I told Ivan back when!

Seriously, I have next to nothing to add to these posts as I just don’t remember these episodes.

There's still always tempting fate (and the bamboo cage) ribbing Z-Ivan though.
Knocking my rubber chicken or my sloppy habits is within the rules, but you're attacking my character. I would like to think you don't mean that.

I just looked on IMBD and you have just four more episodes then the McGarrett/Wo Fat showdown at Pahonu! Closer than I thought. Seems like we were just discussing the season opener A Lion in the Streets.

I wonder if this is where Steve and the boys went for a snack.

Steve and the boys didn't eat donuts. They were in pretty slim shape. Steve jogged every morning. He also shaved, while jogging. According to one episode.

Ok maybe 2 of the boys weren't too slim - Kono and Chin. But they ate malasadas. A little different.

But seriously folks, the Five-O crew wasn't like your typical cops who like to hang around donut shops. They received their orders (and donuts) directly from the governor!

The Flight of the Jewels

Liked it fine.

I thought the heist was cool with the model airplanes and inside man with an oxygen device.

Young Jeff Daniels took me about half a minute to figure out it was him.

"Lt. Tanaka" (as the bad guy) is always good. He's been MIA for a while.

Was dumb rigging up an airplane in 30 seconds with explosions and Truck was right there anyway. I ignore a lot of the dumb stuff though.

Definitely, a lot of the writing became lazy this season.

Thanks! I might have been channeling your review of For Old Times Sake  though you actually had an opinion about that one. I guess I could have added “not very memorable” to fill it out. Perhaps I was also subconsciously mirroring the efforts of the H5-O writers in season 12.

"That's the episode with Steve McGarrett sitting at his desk right. I give it a 6/10" is NOT a review.

It’s the one where you wrote:

“Not very good. That’s it. That’s the review”

I laughed when I first read it and thought about it when I remembered the model airplanes being in the episode but absolutely nothing else.

I guess I was just excited to remember SOMETHING else from season 12 besides the first and last episodes and barely the Most Dangerous Game based episode. For me, season 12 is literally not memorable, as in, I’m pretty sure I saw them all but really remember only TWO!

I'll use the oft used term "okay".

Season 12 is okay.

The okay strategy also works with individual episodes. I don't get in trouble with Z-Ivan if I stick to "the episode was okay".

If he likes it: I get a pass.

If he hates it: I also get a pass.

The fear of the bamboo cage still haunts my every thought and deed.

He’s definitely a huge fan, a lot of it being nostalgia, I think. I get it.

On a side note, I just saw an episode of Route 66 yesterday called Play it Glissando and it had Jack Lord in it. This was about 7 years before H5-O and a year before he was Felix Leiter in Dr. No. He played a jazz trumpeter who was very controlling and paranoid about his wife played by Anne Francis. She was quite good, but don’t tell Ivan, he was a little wooden. It had some good jazz music sequences though and it was neat to see Malibu in 1961.

This one is definitely one of the highlights of season 12. Probably my second favorite, after "The Most Dangerous Gam.... errr... I mean "Though the Heavens Fall". :D Yep, this is the one with the model airplanes! :) Remember this one going back to my childhood and I always had fond memories of it. It's not quite as good as I remembered but for season 12 it's quite good. Both you and Pahonu should appreciate this one because it should give you deja vu of Higgy and Agatha playing with their model airplanes in that great opening of "Distant Relative". :)

As for Jeff Daniels I never recognized him until the end credits. Then I remember going "oh wow!". Here's a cool recent video of Jeff talking about his Five-O appearance. Enjoy! :) https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x78l55j
Also I can't recall where or when but I think I read or saw something about Jack blowing up at Jeff because he wasn't addressing Jack correctly. Didn't call him Mr. Lord or something. Or maybe he said "McGarrett" instead of "Mr. McGarrett". Something like that. Can't remember the details now.

Kwan Hi Lim was another highlight here. Always loved seeing him but his last appearance might actually be one of his best - as the oily and ruthless fence Hank Yomura. He's got some neat zingers for those "kids". The plot itself is kinda far-fetched, especially with the "inside man". He has to heist the jewels (with guards all around) and put them in this airplane and then has to direct the model airplane to the outside opening in the wall (where there's a column of cops standing outside just staring at that hole in the wall) and somehow nobody sees him or suspects him. Not even those cops outside. I just don't buy that the smoke bomb could mask all this going on. It's also funny how the plane just kinda flies in between the legs of those cops and they just stand there with their guns drawn and don't do anything. They don't follow that model plane nor do they attempt to go inside the museum. It's a bit too comical. Not a very well thought-out heist. Yet it works because the script calls for it to work and the cops and everyone else are made to be extra dumb in order for this heist to work. But it doesn't stand on its own. However, seeing as this is season 12 and if you're in the right mood and just want a fun caper then this works! The model planes are cool too, if you're into them. I also like the score by Robert Drasnin. It doesn't really sound like Five-O (Drasnin wasn't the show's "resident" composer) but it's pretty cool and one of the better scores of season 12. A few passages even sound like John Barry's Bond theme.

So while the heist wasn't too believable I always found this a fun episode. Kwan Hi Lim adds the danger element here. Any ridiculous moments here just aren't as insulting to me as the previous episode "The Golden Noose". No mini holes in cliffs that somehow trucks can fit through.
