Magnum Mania!

Since Coops and Old Dusseldorf aren't avaliable what is everyone's choice of beer? Mine is Yuengling. I also like a Chimay every now and then.

Coops, we don't have Shiner in NC, and I know that Yuengling is an East Coast thing.

Yuengling is a nice alternative the usual mass market American urine. (Yes, I'm looking at you, Bud!!!)

I'm a huge Becks and Dinkel Acker Dark fan, as well as Dos Equis Amber. St. Pauli Girl is OK as well.

I love Guinness when I can get a good pint. I also like Smithwick's, which is owned by the same company as Guinness.

As far as regular beer drinking, I really like Killian's, Shiner, and a lot of Samuel Adams Seasonal brews.

Wish we had Coops, though.

I am emabarrassed to admit that drinking beer is one trait I do not have in common with TM. When I was in College in Minnesota in the Seventies, and being broke all the time as College students normally are, my roomates and I used to buy a beer called Fox Deluxe that when on sale, was $9.99 for three cases. You can imagine how bad it tasted, in fact we would chase it down with a bottle of Old Granddad. It was a treat for us to be able to afford a bottle of Schlitz back then (I see Schlitz is trying to make a comeback). Anyway, I lost my taste for Beer and now have to settle on an occasional Grey Goose Martini....I know, not a Magnum drink!!!!

If you have the opportunity, try a Chopin martini. I like mine very dirty (olive juice) and the Chopin is one the few potato vodka's out there. Very nice, earthy flavor.

I rarely drink, but on occasion like a good local brew. It's either DogFishHead or WildGoose. I prefer WildGoose (primarily 'cause DFH will knock me on my butt!) since it's a fine beer brewed in the German style yet made in Maryland. HAD to throw that in there! I think they would be the candidate to make an Old Duesseldorf brew. Anyone for a letter writing campaign?

PS I just sent a letter via their website for an OD beer with a link from another part of the forum. Crossing fingers! However if they don't do it I still plan to do it myself.

Yes, Yes, Shiner Bock and Yeungling are two of my favorites and what I would consider my equivalents to Coops. As far as my equivalent to Old Dusseldorf, a beer that is harder to find and reminiscent of back home, I would say mine would be Labatt's Blue Light. You can find "Blue", anywhere here in Florida but "Blue Light" is harder to find and a special occasion beer. "IKnowWhatYoureThinking", Stop buying your beer at the Quickee Mart and you'll find some Shiner, lol. You can find both Shiner and Yeungling at any supermarket here in Florida so I am sure you can find them in NC if you look hard enough. P.S. When I was living in Hawaii I could find all of those beers at the Pearl Harbor exchange and Yeungling was becoming more popular in the bars on tap. Nothing is better than an icy cold Yeungling in a frosty mug while your sittings at “Kelly O’Neil’s” on Lewers Street in Waikiki on a Sunday afternoon watching the wahines walk by in their bikinis.

I have no trouble finding Uengling, but there are a couple of kinds they don't sale in NC. I haven't seen the Shiner but I will keep an eye out for it. I know Fl probably has a lot better access to some of the Yuengling brands because of their brewery in Tampa.

I try not to look at the label and image my Dinkel Acker Dark is an Old Dusseldorf. Of course it's, a long neck!!!

It's an excellent beer, and one of my all-time favs.

Labatt's Blue Light is one of my favorites. When I went to school in Michigan it was everywhere since it is a Canadian beer. I haven't looked for it in a while, but I have never had a problem finding it in Orlando. Publix has always had it. Now that I say that, I probably won't be able to find it. Molson is another excellent Canadian Beer. I also like Shiner Bock. Until the last several years, it was pretty hard to find in the Orlando area. Ususally only the specialty liquor stores had it, but now it is much easier to find. If you like Shiner Bock and Sam Adams then try "Longboard" from Kona Hawaii. They have a few varities and each is very good. You should be able to find it in "ABC" liquor stores.
