Throughout all the different posts, we have brought up several links between Magnum PI and other TV series, be it cross-overs with Murder She Wrote, Simon & Simon, related sets with Hawaii Five-O, appearances in The Fall Guy, Lt Green on the A-Team, TS on The Rockford Files…
Still there is one TV series with is very much linked with MPI, I’m talking of Baa Baa Black Sheep. Besides the facts that both series are based in South Pacific Islands, the common cast members to both series is rather impressive.
Larry Manetti – Rick Wright / Lt. Bob Boyle
Jeff MacKay – Mac / Lt. Don French
W.K.Stratton – Ens. Healy / Lt.Larry Casey
James Whitmore Jr. - Billy Joe Bob Little / Capt. James Gutterman
Red West - Billy Cockrell, Bull / Mechanic Sergeant Andy Micklin
Curtis Credel – Agent Slim / Marine Captain
Lloyd Kino - North Vietnamese General Minh / Japanese Admiral
Soon-Teck Oh - General Nguyen Hue, Dr. Bill Su, Sato / Col. Tokura
Katherine Cannon - Linda Booton, Marsha Mackenzie / Capt. Dottie Dixon
Kathy McCullen - Mary Jane Lodato / Nurse Ellie
•Produced by Donald P.Bellisario
•Music by Mike Post & Pete Carpenter

Vanity,

You could also throw in the coincidence that the star/lead of Baa Baa Black Sheep, Robert Conrad, got his first start on a TV show in Warner Bros.' "Hawaiian Eye" (though it wasn't filmed in Hawaii).

The REAL star of that show was the F4U Corsair.

Although I liked the actors in the show, I couldn't agree more.

I remember watching this show with my Dad when I was a kid. I remember my Dad shouting out, "There goes the Corsair's buddy! Look at 'em go!" :)

Was it Jeff MacKay's character that was always drinking and half tanked?

I never knew this. Wonder why he never showed up on an episode?

Just watched an episode on Black Sheep Squadron on RTN this past weekend. I pointed out about five future MPI cast members/guest stars to my wife. I don't think she was too impressed with me!
The epi we saw was pretty good (A new pilot is marked as a jinx and ends up sacrificing himself when it all gets to be too much). James Whitmore jr. had a good role in this epi. Also noted what was supposed to be the landscape of the Solomon Islands during WWII looked alot like sunny Southern California to me.

I really wish I had Retro TV. Yet again another reason to have it.

Thanks for a great topic, Vanity!

I Netflixed Baa Baa Black Sheep and it came today...the pilot and two episodes. Lance LeGault was in the pilot...and Jeff MacKay and WK Stratton and James Whitmore Jr. (Also Nuzo in Did You See the Sunrise?)

Larry Manetti doesn't show up until the second episode...with Lloyd Kino.

And we know about Dirk Blocker, right? Dan Blocker's son? Hoss on Bonanza?

Anyway, fun watching the Black Sheep Squadron again. Robert Conrad has a special page in my book...soon after Tom Selleck!!
