Tom Selleck's favorite music?

I have always wondered, since "Looking for Space" by John Denver was featured in Limbo, what Tom Sellecks's favorite music/bands are. I love the song and it fit perfectly, but felt it was out of character for what was being used on both the show and the rest of TV at the time and wondered if Tom had a hand in choosing it.

Don Imus has his guests choose 5 favorite songs he plays as bumpers, he feels it gives insights into who they are. As a music lover I agree what you like says a lot about you and have always wondered Tom's faves, but never ran across anything that hints at them.

Does anyone know?

Conch, I can't remember where I read it, but somewhere I read that Selleck is a Genesis fan and thus why Mama, Tonight Tonight and the relatively obscure The Brazilian feature in the series.

I always thought that, even though it fit, it was more the Phil Collins/ Miami Vice influence that effected the use of Genesis.

That's what made me wonder about John Denver, who's quite different from Genesis/Phil Collins.

I'm not sure TM walking towards the light to the beat of "I Can't Dance" has the same emotional impact.

(I kid, I kid!)

Or even better, "Take Me Home" .....

#1 far better suited, IMO.. Save for the intro.

TMH is a little too upbeat given the circumstances.

Although, we can probably all agree that they probably got it right the first time around.

:magnum:

I think it's pretty obvious that TS is a huge smooth jazz fan. Think about it, Chuck Mangione guest starred in an episode, David Sanborn laid down a track for "L.A.", a Kenny G album is seen in the guest house.... Just kidding about that last one! ;)

You know, in all the Selleck interviews I've watched/read over the years, I don't think I've ever heard him talk about his favorite music. If I had to guess, I'd say Space Rock; maybe a little Hawkwind, Pink Floyd... The Flaming Lips, perhaps? :)

No, but seriously. Based on the songs played in Magnum (which he may not of had a hand in picking -- with the exception of the later seasons), and based on the fact that he went to HS and college in the 60's, I'm sure he's into the usual suspects -- Oldies, Motown, early Pop/Rock, and what later became "Classic Rock". But that's just my WAG. He's a complex person and not so easily labelled. I wouldn't be surprised if he has hundreds of Grateful Dead soundboard shows in his collection. ;)

Don't forget the Dave Brubeck tickets!

*ahem*

Dave Brubeck is certainly not "smooth jazz". Dave Brubeck is "cool jazz" (among other things). Can you dig? Brubeck was laying down what would later become jazz standards long before anybody knew what "smooth jazz" was. ;)

Anyway, how you doing Pahonu! Good to see you again! :)

LOL! I can dig. I've been good. I pop in now and again to look, but haven't written much lately.
