Got a post on Facebook from the James Garner Fan Page, that William Windom passed away at 88. He was in the Magnum episode, 'All Thieves on Deck', season 6, episode 14 (1/30/86). He played the ships Captain, James T Lyle. Most people probably know him as, Dr Seth Hazlitt, from 'Murder She Wrote'. In the Magnum episode, the Captain was writing his own mystery story. What was the name of his hero?

I had to watch the episode, All Thieves on Deck. Behind the display case, containing the Aumakua, is a large framed photograph. I didn't remember it, but she is very famous! Who can tell me who it is?

He also had a role in To Kill a Mockingbird as the solicitor prosecuting Tom Robinson and facing off against Gregory Peck's Atticus Finch. On a personal note, I saw him in A Christmas Carol years ago with Brian Keith at the Pasadena Playhouse. He was a very versatile performer.

I know he's done tons of other stuff, but I'll always remember him as Commodore Matt Decker, commander of the U.S.S. Constellation, in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "The Doomsday Machine"! That's just where my head is at. It's seems like everything has to filter its way through the original Star Trek series for me. If someone made an appearance in it, that's how I'll always remember them (no matter what else they've done).

That's funny! I have a bit of that too, though not nearly as specific. My wife jokes that I know every character actor from the 70's and 80's. There are several shows like
The Rockford Files, Hawaii Five-O, Harry O, Miami Vice, and of course
Magnum that I watch repeatedly and know the guest stars really well. It's surprising how many appear numerous times.
By the way, Warner Bros. just released the first season of
Harry O on DVD and my wife just got it for me. I've been wanting it for years. First episode, Julie Sommars from "Texas Lightning" and Henry Darrow from "Paniolo" appear.
