Browsing this forum I stumbled across a story by an extra on MPI.

He is a police officer describing how the Honolulu Police did not allow their uniforms to be shown on the series, so the cops who were extras had to change into 'Hawaii Police' uniforms. He goes on to say it depended on the chief in charge at the time.

Has anyone ever noticed the police on the show change from Honolulu Police to Hawaii Police?

Hmm, another tough question! Well, we've seen "Honolulu Police Department" on buildings in exterior shots (as well as "Hawaii Metro Police"), but I don't recall what is on the uniforms. I do recall, for some reason, that Magnum's brief girlfriend in Season Seven, Diana (Amy Yasbeck), wore a "Hawaii State Police" patch.

Next time I see a police officer in a Magnum episode, I'll make it a point to look at the patch.
