In 1992, TS starred in the movie "Mr. Baseball." That same year, Upper Deck released a short-print card for the movie. It has Tom and MLB player Frank Thomas on the cover in Yankee uniforms.
I had forgotten about this until I was going through my baseball card collection and found a few. Anyone else have one?
Here's a blog about the card if you've never seen/heard of it:
It was worth $15 back when it first came out. Now it's only worth ONE dollar. It might go back up again when Frank Thomas retires and is inducted into the Hall of Fame.
I have a friend that is a big-time collector of baseball memorabilia. He has a sheet of Roy Hobbes baseball cards made for the movie, "The Natural". He also has a New York Knights uniform from the same film.

Nah. When I joined, I couldn't think of a name that wasn't already taken.
Pitchers and catchers report while I'm in Oahu in a few weeks!!!!!!!
I can't decide what is more strange - seeing Frank Thomas in a Yankees uniform, or seeing Tom Selleck in a Yankees uniform! Of all the teams, why the Yankees? 27 World Series Championships isn't enough? They have to be featured in theatrical movies as well?

P.S. James, thanks for the name change.
Frank Thomas just retired last week. Let the bidding begin!?!?

Yep, the Big Hurt called it quits. I think there is a five year period between retirement and Hall of Fame eligibility. I wonder if he will be a first ballot guy, or is it going to take him a fwe tries to get in?
I think it might take him a few tries. After 1997, he was pretty much a full-time DH. A lot of the writers who do the voting are purists who don't like the DH and won't vote for him or Edgar Martinez because they weren't "players" in their minds.
Never mind that the Designated Hitter has been around since the year I was born (1973).
An associate of mine spent 18 months in Japan, working for Honda. While there, he visited all the Japan League (Major League) ballparks in the country. He said one of the most famous American players of all time in Japan was Ronnie Bass. TS's character in Mr. Baseball was supposedly based on him.
