As recently as just a couple of days ago, there was also a great 7-minute video on YouTube featuring TS's first Boston Legal appearance as Ivan Tiggs. But it has now been removed due to a copyright claim by 20th Century Fox. It's too bad because watching it a couple of times convinced me that I had to buy the Season 2 DVD set ... and see all 3 Ivan Tiggs episodes ... which I did and I have. TS was terrific in that role!

I'm with you Kahunagirl! My son bought me the 2nd season of Boston Legal for my birthday last month and I have watched the episodes that TS is in many times. I really liked him in that role. Showing us yet again what a fabulous actor he is and his versatility. But then again, I guess I am kinda biased....LOL Just look at my user name! :D

Yet another article about TS joining the cast of Las Vegas, including a reference to the Magnum "reunion" --

http://www.lvrj.com/living/9954806.html

Excerpt: "Selleck is still the show's best chance at a ratings revival. The man's a bona fide TV icon. And Thompson is wasting no time in reuniting him with "Magnum" co-stars Larry Manetti and Roger E. Mosley as Cooper's billionaire buddies ... 'It was just fun to see the three of them together,' says Thompson, a longtime "Magnum, P.I." fan."

TS makes Las Vegas instantly watchable. I was about to go to bed, then the scene with TM on the horse came on. I thought it was great from then on. If you take a little Magnum, a little Monty Walsh, and a lot of Jesse Stone and mix them all together, you get A.J. Cooper. Most excellent!!

The show definitely picked up in the second hour, when Cooper was frequently onscreen. I loved his scene with the crazy little manicurist.

You also have to love the irony of Thomas Magnum finally getting to take revenge on a relative of the Huxtable family! Did Elvin Tibideaux really think he could rip off the king of cons, Thomas Sullivan Magnum?

I agree with you Shermy and N...the first hour wasn't that great, but when our Tom Terrific came on the screen things picked up considerably for me. I think Cooper is going to be an interesting character to follow. We don't know much about him yet, but I think that they can definitely take this character a lot of places. I hope they don't "jump the shark" with the show too soon! But even if they did, I'd still watch it...LOL

I just hope they can lighten him up a LITTLE bit. When you see TS in interviews, he's always laughing and smiling and happy. A. J. Cooper seems more of a Jesse Stone with money. The character seems to have a good sense of fun, in terms of marketing schemes for the casino/hotel, but I'd like to see him a little bit more cheerful about it.

Just my opinion, of course, but if he could just laugh a little, it would win me over a little more to the character -- maybe in a few scenes with the manicurist -- I just really want to hear his goofy laugh. I think if he did it with her, then it would keep the business side of him shown only to the employees but make him a little more "human" to the audience. Know what I mean?

But I'm already getting tired of the pregnancy part of the plot. The puking is certainly played for laughs, but it's not leaving much else for those two characters to do. I like the hyper former owner and the black dude's competence more.

Again, just my opinion. This is the first I've ever watched the show so everything is new to me. So my observations are from a first-time watcher who may not fully appreciate the previous character development.

I agree with you golf. Maybe his character will "lighten up" later on in the series. As a comment about real life, my husband has bought out businesses in the past that had existing employees. They don't know you, so he says you kind of have to keep 'em guessing so they don't overstep their bounds. Better you come in the stern taskmaster than show them your 'chucklehead' side right off the bat. Maybe that's where they're going with his character.....just my opinion and just thought I'd share. :D

TS is scheduled to appear on the 10/4 Ellen DeGeneres Show. Here's the promo from her Website:

THURSDAY OCTOBER 4TH - TOM SELLECK
The Chicago Tribune described him as an “aged to perfection hunk.” Emmy Award winner and the magnum of all the P.I’s, TOM SELLECK, joins Ellen to talk about his first regular dramatic role since Magnum. He will replace James Caan as the billionaire head owner of The Montecito on NBC’s “Las Vegas.” Tom also talks about his role as a small town police chief in the upcoming CBS movie, “Jesse Stone: Thin Ice.” We’ll find out how Tom feels about the Magnum P.I. movie that is in production, his feelings about Rosie O’Donnell and how his avocado ranch is faring.

Well, the Tribune sure hit the nail on the head! :)

I agree 100% with all of your comments. N1095A, your description of A.J. Cooper is right on. A perfect combination of personalities. Well said "N." :)
The answer is obvious, old man. Logic is irrelevant. It's simply Tropical Madness. (J.Q. Higgins)

I'll tell ya' I never thought of watching this show before. Now it will be one of my must see shows. I can't wait for Rick and TC to show up. I wonder if Mr. Mosley's character will always be complaining about gas money.
I sincerely hope Mr. Hillerman will come out of retirement if only for a small cameo. I'd LOVE to see Cooper walking through the casino, accidently bump into Hillerman, spilling his drink, prompting an "Oh My God!" Wouldn't that be just the coolest?
By the way, I will be on the road, and miss the appearence on the Ellen Degenerate show. If someone would be kind enough to tape it for me, I'd most appreciate it. And of course as always, cover any costs.
PM me for my address and I'll send it to you the next time I'm home.

N,

Will be glad to tape both the The Tonight Show and Ellen for ya. PM me your address when you get a chance (though if both are as short as the appearances he did on the various shows for "Sea Change," they'll probably show up on youtube shortly. If anyone spots 'em there, I'm sure they'll let us know).

Finally got to watch LV. My expectations before seeing the show were that Cooper would have a lighter sense of humor, but I was surprised at how much I like him. I loved the character. I thought he was a good mix of Magnum and Jesse Stone like N said.

I do feel like you Golf-I miss the laugh but at least we did get to see the Magnum smile and actually he had that head tilt/smile thingy he always did on Magnum. If you watched closely-he really had some Magnum-like facial expressions going on. In the past, we have not seen the man smile like he did in the MPI days and god knows he's got a fantastic smile! I really miss it.

I think as the weeks go by, we may see more of those traits and he may lighten up a bit. It looks like from the previews of next weeks show, Cooper may bowl with Danny? How the heck can you bowl and be that serious at the same time? :D

I read in our newspaper today that LV was #1 in the ratings Friday night and it was even up against "Numbers" which has always beaten LV in the ratings in the past. Looks like maybe Tom has brought some of his many fans with him to LV.

I'd also love to see him as an old friend who visits the casino, but is a compulsive gambler. Naturally, Cooper barters with him...but with limits. (ie. "Blackjack for one hour, the slot machines for two. But no roulette.")
