Someone attended this event last Wednesday and he's uploaded some photos to Facebook. He didn't get to meet Tom as he wasn't doing meet and greets but did get to meet Jillie.

And more here, in which Tom meets a school friend in the audience:

And finally some photos from the Live Talks Facebook account itself:

Tom's interviewed in United's flight magazine Hemisphere.

Very surprised that Tom hasn't been on one of the big talk shows to promote his book.

I got a copy today at a thrift store. It’s a large print trade paper. Over halfway through. Interesting insights into the process of becoming an actor.

Just read You Never Know and I found it to be a fun, lightweight summer read. Seeing Selleck's career path from his perspective was fun, and I was glad to see just how proud he is of all his work on Magnum. Maybe there will be a sequel that takes up where this memoir left off? Would love to read more about his work in Folks, Quigley, Mr. Baseball and so on, but really, Magnum is where it's at. Actually, I wish the sections on Magnum had been even longer with more insight into anecdotes from specific episodes.

Don't go in expecting any big reveals or anything salacious. At all. It's a very... professional memoir. If you are on this forum, you will enjoy it.

Ps - He does give an indication of his favorite episodes without giving an obvious list of rankings.

Tom has done a podcast interview with Ted Danson (recorded before the book came out).

Amian,
Any chance of you sharing some of those episodes titles?

On a recent trip to Florida, I read Tom Selleck's memoir. "You Never Know" is a geat book, and I agree with the earlier poster that anyone on this forum would enjoy it, and I recommend it for anyone on the forum.

I was very impressed with how well it flowed, and I consumed the Audible version, read by the man himself, and that made it all the more fun. I didn't have to imagine his voice -- I was listening to him read it!

I won't say the book changed my life, but it is one of the best books I have read in a while, and it did give me a new perspective on some things. "You never know" is something that I try to teach my kids -- talk to the person, go to the place, have the experience, see the thing -- because you never know what will come of it. You never know whether a chance will come around a second time. My best example of a personal missed opportunity is that I wanted to fly on the Concorde, but I never was able to do it.

In my family, we homeschool our kids, and along the lines of "you never know" is some required reading we have for them for HS graduation: "How To Win Friends and Influence People," by Dale Carnegie. I wish I had read that in high school. You never know.

I attended this event. My apologies to the SoCal magnum-mania members that I did not get in touch beforehand. The whole thing was somewhat on a whim, I basically flew in for the event and flew right back home again. As was mentioned in another post, Tom wasn't shaking hands or signing autographs, but it was a tremendous thrill just to be in the same room with him for an hour, and I was 8 seats away from Jillie. Best part of the night: he admitted he hated the Magnum reboot. That got a big round of applause. A few pics below: the stage from my fourth row seat, a close up of Tom, and my nominee for the best costume in attendance. The shirt may not be exactly right but I give the young lady a great amount of extra credit for the VM02 hat.

And just to top it all off, I ran in to this guy at IHOP the next morning before I headed back to LAX:

I'm re-reading You Never Know while on a little cabin retreat in northern Wisconsin, and TS mentions this little gem:

https://youtu.be/rpqK6jpl-94?si=bQXPDpnGqtDeqLFE

I searched the forum and didn't see any previous mention of it (or of Dubonnet, at least) so I thought I'd post the link.
