Magnum Mania!

A fan recently emailed me about the infamous painting in the kitchen area of the guesthouse. She said it is a combination of two different Gauguin paintings - Jeune Femme and When are you getting married? (only the lady on the left used).

Previously, it was assumed that this painting was a unique creation (by somebody in the prop department) made in the style of Gauguin. Now, it's pretty clear that someone merged two figures from two real Gauguin paintings into one painting.

Slight correction regarding Magnum's "Gauguin" painting. The paintings are more commonly (and correctly) known as Vairumati (from 1896) and When Will You Marry (from 1892).

Thanks for the info James. I know that is the one prop on the show that my wife loves.

That makes it even more valuable in my book. Hope your prop contact comes thru James and that is among the props........

I've always wondered about that painting. You can't help but notice it. Wonder where it is now.

Now will someone tell me the story behind the painting of the woman with the beard that hangs in Higgins' study.

I would like to know that as well. I always thought it was just the painting of the Queen that someone had painted a beard on after one of the Thomas, Orville and Theodore Calvin soiree's when Higgins was gone......

I'm pretty sure that's how it happened, though I don't recall the episode. I seem to remember at the very end, Higgins sits down at his desk (as Magnum et al sheepishly exit), only to look up and see the defaced painting.

or maybe I was dreaming, but I think that's how it went.

Edit: it might have been during one of the Higgins-Magnum prank-a-thons

I can't see Higgins keeping a defaced painting up on the wall.

The "Bearded Lady" painting is a different painting than the Queen Mother painting. And it's not really a beard. It's more like stubble (or maybe even a shadow).



I have no idea what the painting is really called, or who painted it. I even asked around in a couple of art forums, but alas, no luck!

The Queen Mother painting was defaced with a beard, though. In "Autumn Warrior"....
