DVDS -- OT?

I don't know where to put this subject, so I'm sticking it here and James can move it if he feels it should be moved somewhere.

I just joined Netflix with a trial membership so I can get the DVDs of all the MPIs and Hawaii 5-0 at a reasonable price. (I won't confess that I will then copy them all -- that's illegal!)

Anyway, beside that point, once you join Netflix, you can VIEW certain episodes online on your computer! I wasn't aware of that!! And that's really cool!!! It's not for every DVD, probably, but if the title in your queue shows a little button that says "Play," you can play the video!! Now, it's not EVERY episode of the "season" TV shows. For example, for Season 7, I was particularly looking for "Limbo," since I haven't seen the episode where TM supposedly dies since it aired, and I really wanted to see it. But it's not one of the episodes offered for the Play option. It seems to make every other episode available -- or some vague formula like that. Still, if you're really impatient, it's a great option to see a lot of the episodes you might be wanting to see without having to wait for a DVD to arrive in the mail. That'll tide you over till the DVD arrives, and then you can view the ones you missed. I think this is SO COOL! I just had no idea Netflix offered this option.

Not that I'm advocating Netflix over Blockbuster (though I didn't notice this option when I was a trial member with Blockbuster, and Blockbuster didn't have the MPI or H50 DVDs anyway!), but I have found this to be a great "tide-me-over" till I can view the episodes "for real" on syndicated TV or somewhere else.

For example, I have the unlimited-but-only-one-DVD-at-a-time option membership with Netflix, which is $8.99/month. I can get all the MPI and H5-0 DVDs eventually (oh, for more patience!). I think the unlimited-at-a-time DVDs membership is only $16.99/month. So, okay, then you can get ALL the DVDs for a season and pay a lot less than the roughly $45 purchase price. You could get all MPI seasons in one month for $16.99! I'm just getting a few of the H5-0 ones so I can see the Eve Anderson estate in those episodes.

Anyway, to cut to the bottomline, one CAN view all of the seasons by renting the DVDs a lot cheaper than having to buy them. And half of those you can view online.

So for those of us who can't justify buying the DVDs of every season, there is a significantly less expensive way to view every episode (if you have patience). For me, I just look at it this way (and Larry tends to agree with me): for the cost of all the DVDs of every season (8 x $45 = $360), I can do a real helicopter flight over Robin's Nest. I'd rather RENT DVDs and view the episodes -- and still get to do the real flight. That's just MY choice. But for those longing to see them all "affordably," Netflix provides a way to do it -- and half of the episodes you don't have to wait for a DVD to arrive in the mail! You can view them on your computer just when they're in your queue to be sent!

Just thought I would post this for those who might want to go this route.

I'm waiting for the boxed set to come out with all 8 seasons in it. I will then request my son to buy it for me for my birthday, Mother's Day or Christmas! :D :D :D

SL,

Since your son is TS' secret son, I think that's a legitimate (awk, awk, awk, bad pun!) request! :P

I just don't have a son who looks like TS -- OR even Danny DeVito!! So I have to settle for renting DVDs!
