Magnum Mania!

Hey all, new to the boards (but not to Magnum) and am in need of some assistance.

I'm in to airsoft. For those of you who don't know what it is, it's similar to paintball except the guns are replicas of real guns, and rather than paintballs they shoot plastic bb's.

Anywho I'd like to get Magnum's gun. I know that it was a 1911 but there are a few different models (the government and the commander). The main different between the two are the slide lengths with the commander being slightly shorter. It's being nit-picky I know but I'd like it to be as close as possible.

Unfortunately I don't have any of the seasons on DVD, yet. I was hoping that somebody either had some screen caps where his gun is clearly visable, or knew of what episode I should look in on the Magnum Mania photo section. Anyhelp is greatly appreciated, thanks! Aloha!

I believe Magnum's .45 (1911) is the military version, not the commander. It appears to be same model that we used when I was in the military (except ours didn't have the wood grain hand grip that Magnum's seems to have). The commander is noticeably shorter. Perhaps James or someone else can post a picture of the .45 from the show. The shot of the .45 in the opening credits may be enough for you to make the determination.

Yes, it is the Government model. I had always though it was indeed the Government model but, I just recently watched the Jesse Stone movies out on DVD on noticed he had the commander 1911, and since he has used some of his personal gun collection in movies/tv shows I thought it might have been a gun he had back during his Magnum PI days. Anywho, it is the Govt. model, thanks for all the help!

It's definitely the Government model. I was trying to determine if it was a series 70 which came out in the 70's or the military issue, but I am going to bet that it's the military version.

Zen, I don't have any hard evidence but I'd be willing to bet it is a M1911 and not the Series 70. The most noticable physical difference is that the Series 70 has a much larger (specifically taller) front sight. It's getting late and I'm beat but I just looked through almost all the pics from the different seasons and couldn't find one picture of his gun where the sight stood out (which it should seeing as how tall it is). Although I'm not positive I can say that I am convinced that it is a true spec M1911.

And yes, that's a darn fine pistol. I havent decided if I'm going to get a cheap springer (about $20) or an expensive gas unit ($100+). No matter how good the gun is suppose to be or how expensive it is they just always seem to break. I'd rather break a $20 springer than a $200 gas gun anyday. Thanks for the link!

No problem. Also, it's much more common for a movie/Hollywood style blank firing pistol to be the traditional 1911 rather than a Series 70.
