The Second King Kamehameha Club Location

#1 Post by J.J. Walters »

So, in the first season the KKC was located at the Elk's Club, for both indoor and outdoor filming. Then, starting with "Billy Joe Bob" (2.1), exterior shots of the KKC were represented by this building:

This location was used for almost all outdoor shots (non-"Beach Bar") for the rest of the series (the Kahala Hilton was used a couple times, as well). In "Billy Joe Bob" and "Summer School" a clear shot of a streetside "rock sign" (for lack of a better word) is seen, which shows the address as "3860 Old Pali Road". For some reason, I previously had this address as 3880, but after viewing "Billy Joe Bob" recently, I see it's clearly 3860:

In viewing 3860 Old Pali Road on Google Maps, it appears the property just below the pin indeed looks similiar to the property seen in "Billy Joe Bob", "Murder 101" and "Summer School" (the only episodes were you really get a decent look at the extended property). What do you guys think?

What's interesting about all of this, aside from the fact that the property may finally be ID'd (I've never seen it ID'd before), is that 3860 Old Pali Road is the address for the "Marks Estate", for Alfred and Elizabeth Marks (article). The property was purchased by the state of Hawaii in 1956. During the 80s, when Magnum was filmed, the Marks Estate was used as the headquarters for HIMAG (Hawaii Institute for Management and Analysis of Government), a local government "think tank". That's right, "HI-MAG"! LOL! :D

Unfortunately, I can't find pictures of "The Marks Estate" online (aside from the one seen in the article above), so it's hard to say with 100% certainty that this is the location, but it sure looks like it.

Nevermind, case closed! I just found the definitive evidence: http://www.state.hi.us/dot/publicaffair ... /marks.htm

It's the Marks Estate!

I've always wanted to know where this piece of property is located (since it's seen quite often in the show). If I ever get back to Hawaii (which Lord help me I will!), I'll be sure to take a quick jaunt to 3860 Old Pali Road. ;)

"HIMAG" -- I'm still cracking up over that!

Great work!

Damn I was just up that road last week but I didn't bother looking for it 'cause I thought it didn't exist on that road due to the address discrepancy. If I could only go back a week. Well I'll be heading back over in Spring so I'll take some detailed shots.

That HI-MAG thing is crazy and so coincidental....weird!
