Magnum Mania!

Was this an intentional character choice? Magnum kept trademark stuff like the Tigers hat and Hawaiian shirt but slowly tried new clothes to get hip to the times. In Season 8 Rick was still wearing platform heels and gold chains. This is especially puzzling because Magnum is supposed to be a broke private investigator, while Rick has a good job; if anything you'd think it would be Magnum sticking to his 70s clothes while Rick embraces the 80s...

Damn, you guys are brutal about his height! I’ve said this before on here and I’m a legit 6-7 so I could realistically say all of you need platform shoes to man up based in on that criteria.

I am 6'4 but that was my honest opinion.

Shorter men tend to enhance missing body height like that, so the constant use of heeled shoes was a plausible explanation for me - no judgement from my side.

Just look at what many actors are all doing with their hair (or lack of) and you get an idea

Just when I was going to point out that John Hillerman was 5’7” but didn’t wear platform heels, you had to bring up the hair thing.

I was referring to the constant jokes about Jay Hernandez not being as tall as Tom Selleck, not your comment on Larry Manetti. Sorry if that was unclear. It seems Hernandez's height seems to be critical to Magnum's manliness for many. Your observations about Manetti are pretty accurate, I think. Those kind of comments about Hernandez are all over the reboot threads along with a lot of other mean-spirited things unfortunately. I private messaged a few people on the forum several months ago about how tiring the hateful comments were getting. I can see you feel the same. Unlike you though, I have stopped watching the reboot. I watched about a half dozen and lost interest. I just don't have your optimism I suppose.

I didn't know Hillerman wore a rug. I don't recall ever seeing a picture of him bald, are you guys sure about that? Just an aside, everyone on Bonanza wore a wig
except for Michael Landon. However if you ever look at his boot bottoms (after the 1st season or 2) in some scenes you can see how the entire bottom is artfully built up

I don't blame Michael or Larry because the leads on their shows are very big men, TC and Hoss massive bulks. TV is all about visuals, as that conveys just as much
as the dialogue.

Quite sure. It was a really nice one and matched his own hair perfectly. Have you seen 1973's Paper Moon? He didn't wear it for that role. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070510/me ... 1971670016

He also left it off in The Carey Treatment where he played a medical examiner, but I don't have a shot of that.

After he retired, he eventually quit wearing it at all.

Landon did do something to hide dem ears.

Maybe because it’s Hawaii? Hawaii has good weather and a laid back feel and parts of it still look like the 80s. So the local vibe in 80s might still have been disco.
