I thought I'd start a new thread to track this. I've pasted the comments from the pilot thread, and then I'll reply with a reference i just encountered in 3.5 Past Tense.

Hi Souome1, welcome!

It looks like I flubbed this one, another in a long line of flubs for me. It is indeed the "Naval Investigative Agency", not "Naval Intelligence Agency". In "Memories Are Forever", we see the "Naval Intelligence Headquarters". Other times in the show you hear "Naval Intelligence" batted about. All of these appear to have tripped me up. I'll correct it in the episode guide. Thanks.

James, they use Naval Intelligence on the signs in Did You See The Sunrise also:

Both these names seem to be the equivalent of "Coops" beer, as used to avoid product placement, or a fictitious name of a Latin American country, like Costa del Rosa to avoid any political snags. The actual organizations are the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) and the, now well known, Naval Criminal Investigative Services (NCIS) which, was NIS when the show aired.

On a random side note, I just saw an old Streets of San Francisco episode called "Spooks for Sale" that was pretty good. It featured Selleck in 1975 as an electronics expert helping out the homicide department. His mustache looked almost blonde for some reason? It also had Capt. Cooley, Fritz Weaver in it, but they had no scenes together. Selleck's character Jimmy Desco, even mentions previously being in naval intelligence!

Pahonu, I remember that SOSF episode. The plot is very hazy at this point (this was a long time ago when I saw it - more than 15 years ago) but I remember the episode title well. It stayed with me, mostly because at that time I didn't know what "spooks" meant (to me it was Halloween, as opposed to spies ) so I didn't understand the meaning of the episode. But I do remember Fritz Weaver and Tom Selleck being in it. Also Charles Cioffi and Andrew Robinson ("Scorpio" from DIRTY HARRY). That show always had high-caliber guest-stars. Most Quinn Martin shows did.

When I was in college I used to watch the show every morning, followed by ROCKFORD, and then FIVE-O on our local channel here in Philly. Then I would leave for school. In fact that's exactly what I was doing on the morning of 9/11. SOSF just ended and ROCKFORD just began. There was a commercial after the ROCKFORD intro and I switched to one of the big 3 channels (either ABC, CBS, or NBC) and saw as the second plane flew into the other tower. It was 9:03am. Needless to say I was glued to those channels for the rest of the day. I didn't have classes Tuesdays. Just one of those things that will remain with me for as long as I live. Just another morning of me in the kitchen making myself breakfast and watching SOSF followed by ROCKFORD when tragedy struck. Anyway, I digress...

Nice one. Certainly looks like the same stock footage on that one. Either that, or that soldier hasn't moved an inch in a year or so!

I think now this is more about studying the position of the sentry, as I doubt we're going to see Naval Investigative Service again.... It is interesting to note that the sign above the entrance has changed too, all the text is on one line now.

Maybe it's just me but the top image seems older than the other 2 and the trees in the background also seem to have grown very fast. Plus the clouds look different.

Maybe a stock shot from Hawaii 5-0 in the top picture?
