May 1, 1988 & May 1, 2018

Next Tuesday is the 30th anniversary of the airing of the final episode. Are you doing anything to mark the occasion? I'm planning on taking a TV/DVD combo set to work and having Resolutions on loop all day at my desk, along with bringing in 30 Jelly Doughnuts.

I thought it also might be fun to look back on where we were when we watched the final episode. I watched it in my dorm room at the University of Wisconsin, where I was just finishing up my freshman year. I had to borrow my parents 13-inch black-and-white TV for the occasion, as I didn't have a TV in my room normally.

Are you sure it was May 1? I was pretty sure I watched it in September 1988. My memory can't be wrong. I vividly remember (in slow motion detail) how I snorted in disgust at the surprise ending.

I'm in S.8 of my ongoing cycle of watching from 1.1 and just viewed "Innocence A Broad" yesterday. I generally get in one or two episodes a day during "downtime" at the shop, so Tuesday should have me just about at R.1 & 2...or I guess I can skip ahead and then come back to wherever I left off.

At any rate, the ending always leaves me with mixed feelings. A lot of loose ends were sort of "tied up" but certainly not all, and then there's the fact that there will be no more "new" eps. .......sort of the same feeling I'm left with looking at the pics of the concrete slab where the main house used to be. Gone...but not forgotten. Kind of fits the old vaudeville saying among performers..."Always leave em' wanting more.." :D

Anyway, the good feeling is when I remind myself that it's time to start over! :magnum:

I suppose when I grow up...or at least get "old" it won't hold the appeal for me that it had up to this point..but I'm going to be 68 this summer...so I'm not gonna hold my breath waiting for the "thrill" to be gone.

I hope this board lasts at least as long as my desire to watch the series, and goes beyond for others to enjoy.

With all its misgivings and "errors" and "flubs"...in my opinion....it is still the best series that's ever been on television....and probably always will be to me. :geek:

I'm in Canada, so maybe it took a few months before it was broadcast here. (on CTV?)

Or possibly, I couldn't get the American TV station (bad reception) that was showing Magnum in May and I actually saw a rerun in September.

Just got to say Magnum going back into the Navy was lame. Not sure how much time he'd be spending with Lily after that....

Regardless I'm on a loop. Maybe I'll skip ahead.

Thought I'd share a pic of my in-office celebration today. The only bad part: the bakery I went to didn't have any jelly doughnuts! What is up with that?

I had to go home at lunch to get the hat. It just didn't feel right without it.

Seconded!

Though if you were in my "office"....you'd ruin that shirt and cap.....and probably your watch and ring! I always leave mine in the truck and change my shirt/cap too! :magnum:

Lookin' good there though! 8)
