The case of the missing Ferrari trim

#1 Post by Higgins (aka Bondtoys) »

Just enjoying some episodes from Season 1, I wonder if anyone else has noticed the missing black trim on the driver's side of the Ferrari.

In later episodes, the car looks like this:

Now in the pilot, the Ferrari looks like that (notice the missing black trim on the right picture side):

No need to know:

and now, my friends be strong!
J Digger Doyle's car!?!?

I say that we are cheated! :magnum:

From the pics, it seems that the car had an accident on the rear fender - the colours don't perfectly match and maybe the trim was not available/nobody bothered.

Yes!

I've noticed it the last few times I've watched season1.

Didn't do a search here on the forum, but figured somebody, sometime must have brought it up and I was just too late to the party to have seen it, so I didn't mention it either.

BUT.....now that you've brought it up! :D

I figured there were some repairs done on the car and they didn't bother or didn't have time to finish it up "proper". That belt line recess is painted black, and in a repair, that would be the last thing to get done.

I suspect (as pointed out on this forum...) there are many things that should've could've been done different/better while the show was being made, but people are people, and we all fall short of "perfection". If they hadn't screwed up occasionally, or produced less than stellar final product, we wouldn't have near as much to discuss here.

I think it would be interesting to know the back story of why that didn't get painted in time for filming, and then why it just got left that way for as long as it did.

As my forum "handle" indicates, I'm interested in anything having to do with "the car" as much as anything having to do with the show, so the short answer to your original question for me is, YES! :magnum:

This was before Romer's time on the show, so I doubt he would be able to shed any light on the matter even if we could get his attention on the subject.

Anybody having any additional info about this, please post what you know!
