Hey all,
Last night I was doing some research into the movie "Casablanca"...and discovered an interesting fact.
(This may have been posted somewhere else years ago.. so I apologize for the potential reduncancy)
Aside from Rick's (Orville) obvious love for the movie... has anyone else noticed how closely the Magnum/Michelle history mimics the Rick (Bogey)/Ilsa romantic history from the film?
I'm wondering if thats more than coincidental, given the attention they gave the movie in other aspects of the show.
On a side note, why aren't more people named Humphrey now?

Because Humphrey sounds like you are offering sexual services at no cost.Doc Ibold wrote:Hey all,

Now I'm going to see Captain Renault whenever I see Higgins .....
Evolution. Bogie was the apex and there was no need for the name to continue.Doc Ibold wrote:On a side note, why aren't more people named Humphrey now?

Indeed! And General Hue as Victor Laszlo.
Also, it's Rick's favorite movie, his original club was called "Rick's Café Américain" (named after the club in Casablanca), and his favorite song is "As Time Goes By". And let's not forget his goodbye scene with Jeannie on the airport runway in "A Little Bit of Luck, A Little Bit of Grief"... more Casablanca! An example of Pastiche!
The only other Humphrey I can think of is Humphrey the Bear. Not a very common name to say the least.

Higgins: It's not a scratch! It's a bloody gouge!
