Complete Series for $82.49 + Free Shipping ?

#1 Post by Sisophous »

Hi folks,

Anyone know whether this offer has any drawbacks as far as disc quality? It seems these are single sided discs which is preferred but it seems too low a price to be for real. Is there a catch?

For $10 average price per season, this seems too good to be real.

I'm about to purchase it but first want to run it by this forum in case someone knows something I do not.

There are 6 left and 42 disks for this price of $82.49?

Don't know anything specific about this set, but I've bought other complete series from Amazon with no complaints.

There are only two reviews in the ad you linked to, and both are positive.

Sometimes these packages have cheaper (cardboard) sleeves and just in general, not as durable cases, but nothing is mentioned in the reviews about it for this set.

Sometimes they just have good deals on the same thing you'd have to pay double for elsewhere.

For that price, I'd probably take a chance on it if I didn't already have all the seasons.

Thanks for the info and replying so fast, I appreciate it. I just could not figure why the price is so low when most seasons sell individually for close to $20 or more. My only thought is there were not many buyers when this complete edition rolled out on October 1, 2013, so Amazon chose to drop the price. Other sellers are charging far more for the new, full set, it is odd to say the least.

update:

I just purchased it. If I find out something wrong with these discs I can always return them as long as I do not open the discs. Any feedback about this is welcome. I haven't seen any price near this low a price and don't expect it to go any lower in the near future. At any time, the price can jump up knowing Amazon so I grabbed it.

I'll be surprised if there's any problem with it.

As I said, I've bought other complete sets from them, with no problems. Occasionally, they'll run a "Daily Deal" special, and I've gotten sets for less than half price, and they seem to be the exact same sets that others have paid double for.

Do report back when you get it and let us know how it turns out.

My set sat on my bedroom bookcase shelf until last night when I finally opened it. I watched "No Need To Know" from Season 1 with the IRA trying to kill the British Brigadier staying on the estate. The picture clarity is excellent, at times close to the low side of high definition, 720p. I think the HDMI cable hookup makes a big difference while viewing discs, using composite cables would not deliver as sharp audio or video.

There are so many discs I hope none of them are cracked.

I enjoy seeing this series and Hawaii more during the Winter season so I will be watching more episodes.

Is the quality better than the original DVD releases or is it about the same?

I can't really say because the MPI discs I rented for years came from Netflix which get a ton of use. The picture quality seems crisper on the complete series but not significantly better.

I think you get a slight deterioration on playback of discs that have been in circulation and/or sitting on a shelf for a long time. I know some of my DVDs that I purchased new from 10 years ago do show some loss in quality from when they were first used.

Think it's just a sign of the DVD market facing difficulties and dropping prices.

I recently bought complete series of 'Buffy' for A$15.00 per season at one of our major retailers over here. Crazy cheap compared to past times.
