We're a nation of short memory
I find this a very apt summary of the situation. After living in Europe for many years now, I'm amazed by the ease with which we in the "new world" tear down our fabulously built historic buildings to put up new stucco boxes. Even those like this one, which has such a significance to the country. Where I live, I regularly find myself in ancient buildings - hundreds of years old - that could have been built a few years ago, judging by their state of repair. It takes a lot of upkeep and major renovations every so often, but the result is so amazing and inspiring.
It would be a real shame to see this monument knocked down and replaced by something disposable - probably with some corporation's huge logo on the side of it.

Amen Styles. Magnum connection aside, this monument was built to honor those who risked and sometimes gave all for not only this country, but the world. I am personally appalled by the fact that conditions have gotten to this point. What does that say about our respect for those who literally saved the world not so very long ago?
