Magnum, P.I. = Comforting

After a recent death in the family (a few days ago) I couldn't sleep this morning... unable to turn my brain off. I found myself wanting to put on some Magnum, P.I. - I kept hearing Magnum's voice in my head. I've always found his voice-over/narrations during the episodes to be comforting. Oh how I wish it was 1983 again.

Yes, he's got a very soothing voice.
Sorry to hear about your troubled mind. Hope you'll feel better soon.

Sorry about your loss!

I find Magnum P.I. very comforting as well. I have all episodes on my iPod Video and often turn it on when I am going to bed.

I am listening for some minutes, feel immediately relaxed and fall asleep.

Not, that it's boring, it just brings a very good feeling at the end of a day!

I rememeber about 15 years ago I was going trough some though issues with my right shoulder and I was at home quite a bit. Luckily they were running two Magnum episodes per day. Those were the highlights of each day for me.

I can only agree with you all. Magnum is a very comforting series. It really makes you feel good.
It has helped me on several occusions when i have felt really bad, and it don´t matter what episode i watch. It´s just the feeling of the show. Medication for you soul.

It's nice to see we all share the same deep connection to something so many other people just don't understand. And welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the kind words about the death in the family. I've been reading here for a good spell of course, both the site & the forums. It's a very nice community. Lots of interesting things to learn & alot of really nice people of course :D

Thanks for the welcome, I've attempted to update my avatar directly from my computer but it's saying I have to fill out required fields. Yet, everything is filled out already. Strange.

There's a handful of other shows I get this 'comfort' from. I can't think of them all off the top of my head... but Magnum, P.I. of course, Dukes of Hazard, Knight Rider and Mama's Family to name a few 8)

Thanks again for the nice replies it's nice to be amongst people who understand :)

I'm also sorry to hear about the loss in your family.

When my father was first diagnosed with cancer I was a wreck and one day I came home from work and Distant Relative was on our local channel. It was the one hour during that month he was sick (he died really quickly after his diagnosis) that I could separate myself from my life and just be. I have always loved Magnum, but that's probably the moment I realized exactly how important the show was to me.

Hi txz045,
sorry to hear you got such a loss.
I hope you will be ok soon.

About your avatar, I remember I had troubles to set mine too.
I think you have to enter the password twice or something like that.

Yeah, in ALL the fields (as though you want to change your password). It's a glitch.

Thanks again ya'll. It's comforting to know others have used the show to the same effect. And thanks for the 411 on the avatar. I'll try that 8)
