Five Words

Hi.

I'm a relatively new member (from the UK), but have loved Magnum, P.I. since I can remember loving TV (I was born in 1979).

If "Magnum, P.I." is your "all-time" favourite series (as it is mine) could anyone else tell me why - in as few words as possible (five would be nice!) ?

It's nice to know I'm not alone, you see! (I get stick from my contemporaries... "Sex And The City" and "Friends" are more popular where I live, I'm afraid!)

(My own words, by the way, are: "heart - friendship - ferrari - moustache - hawaii) !

Welcome to the forum Commandress.

I'm in the UK too (I was born in '78 ), and can remember Magnum on ITV. Even if they were shown wildly out of sequence! :)

Five words? Hmmm.... Well, five words that sum it up for me...

Action, Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Friendship

Also, I guess it depends what kind of friends you have - my "circle" is mostly tired of the modern stuff ('Sex In The City' et al). A lot of people seem to be now realising how good slightly older shows are.

Thank you Jay!

Very much enjoying your reviews, by the way... thoughtful and considered... I hope to do the same thing myself, someday!

It's not 5 words, in no particular order, but in MY opinion it'll do.

1) Thomas Sullivan Magnum

2) Jonathan "Higgy Baby" Quayle Higgins

3) Theodore "T.C" Calvin

4) Orville "Rick" Wright

5) Brotherhood.. and all it entails

Lets discuss

Thanks for all the welcomes!

I think that while contemporary TV can be very classy, there aren't many shows that can blend genres like MPI used to, let alone have "brotherhood" and "honour" as recurring themes.

Really enjoying this site, by the way. :D

Glad they met with approval  I'm planning to go through a second time, there's loads I missed and want to comment on. I'm having a few weeks break first though - and catching up with a ton of films that I recorded so I could watch MPI each night instead!

Although there are things that TV can do now that couldn't be done 25 years ago, I find most newer shows lacking the "depth" of stuff like MPI. In MPI, I really believed in what was going on and cared for the characters; most TV nowadays just doesn't do that for me.
