Are any of you MPI fans also fans of Jimmy Buffett?

They both sprang to popularity at about the same time and for about the same reason IMHO. They both gave an avenue of escape to the routine of life on the mainland. They both offered a brief mental vacation for viewers/listeners to a tropical paradise where there are no cares- only friends, fun, and sunsets...

I am a fan of both. Buffet is great to listen to when you want to think about warm weather no worries!

I can get into some of Jimmy's stuff. I still love those early-mid seventies albums ("White Sport Coat" to "Changes in Latitudes"). Saw him in concert once a long time ago. A fun show.

Between his albums, tours, books, and restaurant chains, this guy is making some serious bread!

I was an early fan of Jimmy as well gong all the way back to "Come Monday" and still love to listen to the "Changes in Latitudes" CD. I have only been to one concert, way back in 1989 when my wife and I were first dating. What a great afternoon and night it was, I drove a jeep at the time, we arrived at the outdoor venue early to party in the parking lot with the parrot heads, me in shorts and Hawaiian Shirt (of course), my wife (she is African American) in normal clothes and seemingly bewildered by the activity complete with beach balls, the obligatory hands on the head during "Fins" but still managed to have a good time (and still marry me). Of course my payback was a Patti LaBelle Concert, a Frankie Beverly and Maze Concert AND having to go see the play Beauty Shop...LOL!

Yea, it sounds like you guys are on the same page as me. Even Jimmy himself says that his songs cause people to take a mental vacation for a few minutes.

For me, MPI was much like that during the 80s. Times were a little tough until Reagan straightened out the mess that Carter got us into. Also, the weather is pretty lousy in the parrt of the country where I grew up during the winter. MPI allowed me to take a short vacation to a tropical paradise each week.

I like some of his songs ,, was listening to few on youtube just a few days ago .

I have been a Buffett fan since my father brought home Changes in Latitudes when I was about 11 and watched MPI since it started in 1980.

everytime Buffett comes anywhere near the east coast we go to the show.

I think everyone here knows I'm a big Buffett fan -- but only up to his "One Particular Harbor" album. All the others pre-OPH I have and listen to frequently. I've never been to one of his concerts because (1) I hate crowds and (2) his concert versions of the songs are so "ad-libby" compared with the albums versions, which I tend to prefer. I wasn't much of a "beach" person until I met and married Larry (and he taught me to snorkel), but now when we travel to whatever island we're heading to . . . well, sitting out on a balcony in the evenings with our drinks, I tend to turn on the laptop and play "my" Buffett music. It just fits. And at home or in the car, I listen and WISH I were sitting on that balcony/patio/lanai.

Plus, I loved using his songs for my flight simming (some of the ones the Copyright Police haven't yet jerked on youtube):

Hey Golf,

I prefer older Buffett as well, but he does still have some really good music post-OPH.

Try "Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On" from "Take the Weather With You" about Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans.

I didn't start listening to Jimmy Buffet until I became a reggae fan. But now, I get it! Buffet and MPI are parallel. Paradise is where its at. This is why I live in southern California. I think I would go insane in Michigan!
It's nice out here, but crappy enough in the winter to make you want to hop on a plane to Hawai'i!

I think we should start a blog about different MPI connections.

Like Mark Harmon in "Summer School". He sure acted like Magnum ( a total beach bum) sans moustache. Also, he's been currently starring in NCIS ( a Bellisario production.).
