I couldn't STAND that episode and even turned it off 1/2way through, which I NEVER do with Magnum, no matter how bad the episode.VM02 wrote:I watched White on White and Nearly perfect last night. I've never seen another full episode of Rockford, so I don't have much to compare it to. It sure was interesting to see TS playing a different PI, this one with an opulent office and a secretary. The differences between Lance White and Thomas Magnum help (me at least) to understand the amount of acting ability that TS has, and the little things that go into making Magnum, well, Magnum.
Also saw a younger Joe Santos.

There is another Rockford Files episode called "Nice Guys Finish Dead" (I think), which features not only Tom Selleck, but also Larry Manetti and James Whitmore, Jr. I'm surprised they didn't include that one as a bonus, or did they?
The answer is obvious, old man. Logic is irrelevant. It's simply Tropical Madness. (J.Q. Higgins)
I thought it was great, but that's mainly because of James Garner. It's definitely a little strange to see TS playing a PI other than Magnum.Doc Ibold wrote:I couldn't STAND that episode and even turned it off 1/2way through, which I NEVER do with Magnum, no matter how bad the episode.
I believe that episode is from Season 6- which hasn't been released on dvd yet. Still, it is a little surprising that they didn't include it as a "preview" episode, but I guess the next Rockford set isn't that far along yet.IslandHopper wrote:There is another Rockford Files episode called "Nice Guys Finish Dead" (I think), which features not only Tom Selleck, but also Larry Manetti and James Whitmore, Jr. I'm surprised they didn't include that one as a bonus, or did they?

Hey guys, maggiepoole wrote:So, has anyone watched the episodes with the commentary on yet?
I am curious, but apprehensive. You know how you can know too much about something, that it could ruin the mystique about it?
The commentaries are actually really good, and don't really give away much that we haven't already uncovered speaking amongst ourselves already.
Whats funny is that there are a few flubs where Jay Hugely or Charles Floyd Johnson have some flubs and while I watch them, I correct them!
(But then again, its been 20+ years since they did the episodes, so I'll let 'em off).
Won;t spoil the show in any way, and will give you insight on how the show was written and how they wanted the characters to be portrayed.
And trust me, what they talk about isn't anything we haven't found out already!
Enjoy!

Except for that bombshell about "Limbo"!
I really, really enjoyed the episode commentary from Jay Hugeley and Charles Johnson. They both did a commendable job. "The Legend of the Lost Art" commentary is my favorite. What a blast it must have been to make that episode! These commentaries are even more special when you consider that these are the only ones we get, for all eight seasons!

Oh. DUH!James J. Walters wrote:That Season 8 was greenlighted before "Limbo" was shot. The word came in just as Huguely was finishing the script.

However, I didn't really consider that much of a shocker because from what my parents recall it sounded like there was a big to-do because it was the last season, and I assume thats when all the letter writing began. So, while Season 7 was filming, they literally decided to change it at the last minute.
Oh well, dumb move on my part!
