Anyone know what aggregate would have been used in 1930's Hawaiian concrete?
Socal drone, I would love to see all the stills from the flight. You could crop out all but the demo area specific. Yes?
Based on the permit, it listed asbestos and lead.
Paint before 1978 is automatically assumed lead based. Older structures with old cement, tiles, insulation, wall paper, plaster, roof sealant just to name a few are also assumed asbestos if built before the 60's. On old home like Robins nest had to be chock full of both.
The odd part is if you remodel, you have to do very expensive abatement if you want to open a wall to add electrical/data... or if you have to demo due to termites or rot. However if you outright demolish in many cases you do no abatement. But you have to take it to a specialized "recycling" facility, which in many cases the materials are just dumped into a land fill and then covered.
Demolition companies are warned about taking remnants from older buildings due to lead and asbestos. And I would bet since the building was basically a celebrity itself, the city warned the contractor to get in and get out quick and do not keep mementos.
That being said, check Craigslist and E-Bay. I guarantee chunks will show up eventually.
