If you can remember your first viewing, what was the most shocking/jolting Magnum PI moment for you?
Didn't include Ivan because he was evil.

Shocking and traumatic can be very different things.Pahonu wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 7:51 pm That’s a tough one! Good idea though.![]()
I think Mac blowing up was the most jolting thing for me. It came so suddenly after a light-hearted, funny scene. When TM shot Ivan, you knew something was going to happen, if not a vigilante killing. There was also a lot of intensity leading up to Diane’s suicide. Maybe less so for Michelle and Lily being blown up, but it was fairly serious up to that point.
I think Magnum’s death was more traumatic, if less jolting. The scene was well done, but again you knew something big was happening. It was the season finale. I think it was more traumatic because I, along with most viewers I suspect, knew that was the end of the series and the character we had enjoyed for seven years. I recall watching him walk into the clouds and feeling a loss at the time. TS only agreed to do part of an eighth season later. It wasn’t exactly jolting or shocking, but ultimately more traumatic, I feel.
I didn’t vote yet because I can’t decide between the two as shocking and traumatic can be very different things. I’m in no way criticizing the question.I just find it hard to answer for the reasons above.
Got it! I’m going with Mac’s death then.T.Q. wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 8:33 pmShocking and traumatic can be very different things.Pahonu wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 7:51 pm That’s a tough one! Good idea though.![]()

That's true.
How about "traumatically shocking"?![]()
I can rephrase the question.
Jolting and shocking was more what I was asking.
Yeah, me too I think.Pahonu wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 8:34 pmGot it!

I remember very clearly TM’s reaction to the videotape of Michelle and Lily in the blown up car. I agree though, somehow Mac’s death, with TM and his date being blasted by the explosion as being more shocking. Perhaps because it was depicted as being live rather than recorded? Of course, there was also the following scene of Mac’s burned remains that added to the trauma.T.Q. wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 8:42 pmYeah, me too I think.Pahonu wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 8:34 pmGot it! Was a toss-up.
Michelle and Lily blowing up was pretty jolting. Mac was more memorable for some reason.

I didn't know about Michelle and Lily.
Was expecting to see Mag blowing Ivan away on your list but didn't. I went with Mac getting blown up. That was a shocker!
You haven’t seen all the episodes? I had no idea.IvanTheTerrible wrote: ↑Mon Aug 09, 2021 4:38 pm Come on, T.Q. gotta put spoilers on these things!![]()

Nope, I've only seen the first 3 seasons, season 4 up to "Letter to a Duchess", and a few from season 7. That's it. I know, I need to get back into it.Pahonu wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 12:03 amYou haven’t seen all the episodes? You might want to be careful poking around here then. There are tons of potential spoilers in these threads. Most of us have seen them all multiple times and we post on the assumption that fellow Maniacs have watched the series. That’s completely fair, I think, for a series that debuted over 40 years ago. TQ references several deaths from the final couple of seasons right in the quiz choices.IvanTheTerrible wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 11:44 pmNope, I've only seen the first 3 seasons, season 4 up to "Letter to a Duchess", and a few from season 7.
