Google Earth MPI project

#1 Post by Lt. Cook »

I stumbled on a thread where 308GTS had used google earth to find Robin's Nest and labeled the parts of the estate.
I did the same thing with the estate a few months ago, it really made me wish I had a several spare bucks to buy that estate and recreate the decor and guesthouse (I'd open it up once a week or so for magnum fans, of course)!
It would be cool to google earth all the key locations of the series and post them here. just a thought.

I had done that with all the info I could find on all the different supports.

It was travelling to Hawaii without leaving my desk 8) .

Had most of the spots on Google Earth, the one exact location used for the KKC venue was still missing though.

Then 5 months ago my PC crashed, and it's all gone.

So yes, I love the idea of having it posted on this site.
I know what you're thinking...

Hi, Lt. Cook. Welcome to the site!

I don't have them on Google Earth, but you can find a fair amount (but by no means all) of the filming locations here...

http://magnum-mania.com/Lists/On_Location.html

It's a work in progress and probably always will be. There are just so MANY filming locations!

Has anyone done any research on the "Little Saigon" scene from "Memories Are Forever", which has been pointed out is on N. Hotel Street? I want to start building exact locations on Google Earth.

The pic here shows what looks like a 'KA' on the street sign behind Magnum. This would leave to believe that it's Kekaulike Street which is the only street with starts with KA that crosses N. Hotel and only from one side as well. I reckon the 'Magnum getting shot scene' is near the northwest corner of Kekaulike at N. Hotel. I walked by here unknowingly a few months ago and I'm trying to find a photo I took about 60ft around the corner to the right of the photo.

Maybe I should have posted in this thread before. Just for your info - I don't know if you've seen the locations I've posted in episode threads - but all those plus many more I've been working on in Google Earth. I'll be posting that info at some point, hopefully not too long now.

I haven't been through Memories Are Forever yet so I'm sorry I can't help there.

Ice Pick,

The key to this location is the Wo Fat building.

http://extras.mnginteractive.com/live/m ... ATOWN9.jpg

From this walking map...Wo Fats is number 8.So the scene was filmed in the streets at number 29 or number 7.

I believe it is number 7,When Michelle goes to TM you can see the Wo Fat building in the background..

Take a look at the episode again and let me know.

Thanks Sam!

I think that is right then. The scene must have been done between 29 and 21 with TM's back facing 21 cause you can see the Kekaulike street sign behind him. I have a photo of myself right in front of the vegetables at Wo Fats with the whole street behind looking down. But....it's on a disc which for the life of me, I can't find....arg!

rubber chicken,

I haven't checked out the locations you've done yet but will immediately. I'd love to help out if needed. I'm a location junky on Google Earth but usually for locating music vid locations.

edit - Wow, you've done a fantastic job! As I like to do similar stuff on GE I can totally appreciate the time it takes to do it. I'll be going back to Honolulu this year, probably in Oct again, so all these locations on a kmz file will definitely come in handy. If you need help editing, as that's super time consuming, let me know.
