It's a pretty good replica jacket. Original is a deeper colour, but that could just be the flash on Larry's camera distorting this one.
I bought one of the original crew worn jackets couple years back - Larry's copy is same on front, but a fair bit different and plainer on the back. Original jacket has "ON LOCATION" above a big Cross of Lorraine symbol with "MAGNUM" emblazoned over the top, then "HAWAII" underneath. Not sure why he wouldn't have copied it a little more closely?

My guess would be production cost.steveadl wrote:Not sure why he wouldn't have copied it a little more closely?
Having worked in the CSE (computer stitch embroidery) field, the charges associated with any embroidery are usually calculated by thousand stitch count. I.E., the higher the stitch count in the design, the costlier it is to produce.
The omission of the COL and the "shadow" effect included on the original crew jackets, and the extra lettering, would have run the cost of production up considerably. So I'm guessing that's why these new jackets can be offered at the price they are, which is very affordable, while if the original design were to be duplicated, the selling price would probably be double, if not tripled.
Pure speculation, but like I said, based on my having done CSE in the past, including the digitizing process, by which these type designs are created.
