I'm sorry.. but when I first read this.. my mind immediately went here:

Interesting fact though - I had heard it was in disrepair for some time.

a frame from the episode:

I'd love to climb the Stairway even though the view is quite different now...
From 1997 the Interstate H-3 crosses the Koolau mountain range.

I know what you're thinking, but this time you're wrong.

That's a damn shame, I was looking forward to tackling the Haiku Stairs on my next visit to Honolulu down the track.

Noted this upload a few minutes ago. I hope in the future the stairs will be repaired and available for enjoyment by people.

A video that surfaced of a group throwing off a metal railing off Haiku Stairs, also known as Stairway to Heaven, is leading the state to increase restrictions for the already illegal hike. https://youtu.be/eIvsiTvG1iU?si=A8hiSBMjoXAmyP90

Why were the stairs allowed to be in such poor condition to begin with? It looks like a natural tourist draw, charge $25 to hike them. Whatever is left from maintaining the site etc.
could be used for other such projects. It seems like such an obvious solution, where is the common sense amongst the local bigwigs?
These nitwit news people, they should go to the responsible authority and ask them to explain why they aren't up to the job of fixing this problem.
I promise you, I could get 10 guys from my service club to take on this task and they'd get the job done, talking local contractors into working at cost or nothing, erecting a big plaque
with the names of the donors at the entrance works a treat. Where are the problem solvers, this has been going on for years.
Okay, I'm getting off my soapbox, but this really cheeses me off.

I think that's on point. I really, really wish that'd happen too.
