Hey great points Lindsay. I would be fine to give it a shot if they brought Magnum back with new actors. I do think the show will translate - even with new people if good people were creating it. I sure hope people have had some fun with my scripts and conjectures.

While they may bring it back, I can't see it working. Not in the way we liked the show anyway.

Magnum PI unlike some other shows IS the characters/actors so much, unlike say H50 where it's more reliant on the story/crimes and just strong characters as opposed to the same dynamic the Magnum characters did. Not to mention a reboot of Magnum would be made without the estate which for fans of the show is a very important part of it.

But that's just opinion. I'd still be interested to see how they would go about making a reboot, I just can't see it being successful.

They could always rent the estate again or find another ocean front estate. That's not a problem.

Sean Connery played James Bond from 1962 to 1971 then he returned for one final film in 1983.

Roger Moore was Bond from 1973 to 1985 then we had Timothy Dalton for two films in 1987 and 1989.

Pierce Brosnan got to do four Bond films and Daniel Craig will do 4 or 5. Then it should be Hugh Jackman he'd be great as 007.

Magnum is long overdue for a new series they should have brought the original cast back in the 90's for TV Movies they could have done 3 or 4 then the show could have been completely rebooted in 2002 or 2003 that was the perfect time we had 24 with Jack Bauer as America's anti-terror Hero and Magnum would have done really well with a new guy as Thomas.

Vietnam was so long ago it will have to be Afghanistan as the back story for our heroes. Magnum could be a Special Forces veteran instead of the Navy Seals maybe he was an Army Ranger. Won't really matter what branch he was in.

The key will be to find a cast that has the same great chemistry and to have episodes that are all as good as the best episodes from 30 years ago. If they can do those two things it would work and I am certain when Hawaii Five O ends Magnum will be re-born on CBS they will do what they did in 1979 when they knew Five O was going into its last season that's how Magnum got on the air they wanted another detective show that could be filmed in Honolulu using the same facility.

I can't see many Magnum PI fans embracing a remake television series with new characters. The Magnum we all know and love cannot be replaced; any new configuration will fail in comparison. How can anyone play the Higgins character? It can't be done. Some things simply cannot effectively be remade. Great works of art (and Magnum was a great work of television art) cannot be remade with success.

I know Hawaii 5-0 has had a nice second run; but it has nothing in common with the original series other than the location, name, and character names. Every modern-day cop show cliche is in full force in the new Hawaii 5-0 series; it is generic and predictable beyond belief. I am always surprised that fans of the original show can enjoy this new version.

The charm, the escapism, the personalities, the Anderson Estate, etc. played a significant role in making Magnum unique and magical. That cannot be reproduced.

I want new episodes with a new cast. I'm tired of watching the old episodes I've seen every single one many many times. Higgins was a fantastic wonderful character and Hillerman was a brilliant actor especially since he's from Texas. They would have to find a British stage actor to play the new Higgins and they could definitely find an actor worthy enough to play the part.

Magnum could be recast how about Jon Hamm from Mad Men? Or an unknown guy could be Magnum. You will always have the old episodes to enjoy the same way you can watch the Sean Connery Bond movies if you don't like Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan or Daniel Craig.

Magnum is definitely going to be rebooted at some point and I'm looking forward to it. The new version will be a success because the formula is so good it's escapist entertainment with an exotic setting and great characters.

I like the new Hawaii Five O it's much more energetic than the old series the new episodes are action packed and exciting. I'm certain when Five O ends CBS will want a new version of Magnum and they will make a deal with Universal to produce it. And you will always have the 1980's series to enjoy on DVD or on TV the old episodes will be in syndication forever.

I like the season 9.... kinda how I had things working (details a bit different) but I like that Thomas is still on island and still on estate. I like how the old characters are still around and buddies. Just enough new blood to create a new line of action.

I am in!

Problem is, can Tom Selleck do Blue Bloods and his trademark at same time?

Thank you 24coffee. I have been so happy that folks have enjoyed my experiment with season 9. One thing that motivated me to write that was an interview clip where Tom Selleck responds to a question whether he would do Magnum again by saying, and I paraphrase, that he would, but no one's written anything yet. Well, I wanted to make sure somebody, somewhere wrote something. I must admit the job was really more for fun. Sometimes, I think our chances for a Magnum reunion in some form might have been better had Blue Bloods not have taken off, but I am very happy to see Mr. Selleck finding success on television again as he deserves it. So glad you enjoyed my season 9.
