Magnum P.I. - The Complete Series (DVD)
42-disc collection (all eight seasons) will be released on October 1st. Amazon pre-order for $118 ($15 per season). Includes all the same content as the previously-available individual season sets (i.e. no new bonus content).

It's a bummer that there is no new content, but $15 per season is pretty sweet. Also it would appear that all the seasons are single-sided DVD's (the individual releases totaled 31 discs, this has 42 discs).

I may have to get out of the stone-age and pick up the series. I'm tired of waiting for Thursdays.

Thats a pretty sweet deal!
Too bad not Blu Ray, but as we discussed somewhere else before, I doubt there's a market for 80s TV shows on Blu Ray.

wow! very cool. I would get it but I already have most of the seasons.
Re: Magnum P.I. - The Complete Series (DVD)
Neat they are finally doing this. However, I think I would have been happier had they continued to release more seasons individually with single-sided discs, though. I liked that seasons 1 and 2 got re-released in slimmer packaging sans the double-sided discs. I guess seasons 3 and 4 will not get similar treatment.

I'll get it once Netflix drops the series.

The original Hawaii 5-0 is also being released as a complete series on Nov. 5th. It does have extras not included in the individual season releases. I just saw it on http://www.tvshowsondvd.com

Looks like they are recycling the cover from the Season 7 DVD for the box set. No bonus content, no new cover... But, hey, at least we are getting the single-sided DVD's.

My season boxes are all falling apart, so this is welcome news.
A shame about the cover art being recycled though... and no bonus content?! WTF? Accountants!

You are referring to the cases? The actual DVDs should be indestructible other than possible scratches unless I'm missing something.Danno wrote:My season boxes are all falling apart, so this is welcome news.

Yes- the cardboard boxes/cases haven't faired too well. Hopefully this is a sturdy container.Sisophous wrote:You are referring to the cases? ...but should we all just wait for a BluRay release?

Not sure what to tell you. Someone out there knows whether the BluRay will be released for MPI, a target date, but unfortunately they are not participating on this forum to let us know. I'm thinking of tracking down the top executives that know the answer to this question but I likely will get the runaround.Danno wrote:should we all just wait for a BluRay release?
Here are the production companies of MPI:
Belisarius Productions
Glen A. Larson Productions
Universal TV
I'm thinking Universal TV is likely the one that may know the answer. Most of the distributors are also from Universal.
Re: Magnum P.I. - The Complete Series (DVD)
The question becomes how many other TV shows of that era are being released on blu ray. If not many, I doubt we'll see it. Unless there were a bunch of extra features and behind the scenes interviews/episode commentary, I doubt I would fork over the $$$. From what the guys have to say about Universal, I doubt they would participate in any special features now.Sisophous wrote:Not sure what to tell you. Re: Magnum P.I. - The Complete Series (DVD)
Did anyone pick up the new complete series release? I was curious about the packaging, though it looks to just be a standard outer cardboard box holding the new-style DVD cases (like season's 1 and 2 re-releases).
