All this talk about the Ferrari's bought back memories of my first trip to Universal Studios in 1989. Being a big fan I snapped some shots of the car on display. From my memory, and going back to my photos, I remember for some reason, the seats being tan, but I dont have any shots of the inside unfortunately. Funny enough on my last visit in 1995 I didnt manage to see it. Maybe its not on site anymore???
oh my God!!!

There are a lot of pictures of that car on the website Golf has her MGI video. If you type Magnum PI into their search engine, you'll find the pics. Note how the car on display has no Ferrari badges not even in the center of the rims, It has a pair of plastic race car, go cart seats, and the hood vent is deeper than the Ferrari 308, and deformed. Me thinks this is a display only kit car.

This shot shows a different style lower front air dam. This car was never on the show.

Regarding the Ferraris, there were always three on set, at their avail. Two dupes and one on a VW chassis equipped with dual tractor brakes. (I think they were called) these were to allow directional skidding and a 180 easily. ( or donuts or whatever action needed). The two dupes were swapped by Ferrari every four years. One of them always had a well worn area on the driver's door upholstery where the stand-in would rest his arm between takes ready for the camera to roll and then to zoom away or whatever. If you have ever been on set you know it's wait 90 percent of the time, action for a few moments.
As we all know, the seats were dramatically altered for Selleck's tall frame; he was almost sitting on the floor. he was so tall, the stock seats would have raised his head comically much above the windscreen.
Here are the tan upholstery pics and the "kit car".
