I finally found my picture of TC's van.The pic is dated Mar 1988.The guard shack was shown in "Forty" and used as the truck rental office in "Torah,Torah,Torah".
Is that TC's van parked in the same spot in the second picture?
Silly Me, I didn't realize that photo was the studio's parking lot. I knew it was a period photo, I thought you just saw the van in a parking lot in Hawaii. A lot of studios rent the vehicles used in production.
I saw one of the vw vans for sale some time back (it was on the internet so probably within the last 10 years or so). It still had the paint job and the camera mounts. I can't remember where it was but it was stateside. They wanted 5000 which was too much for me at the time.
Nice photo Sam! I guess you were using a zoom lens? It kind of looks like you would be on the studio property otherwise.
I think you may be right about that being TC's van. But it doesn't seem to have the paint job. The yellow stripe at least should show up better. Maybe this was a "tow" van used for interior shots?

RC,
N1095A and I were discussing the van over the weekend. He watched that part and came up with the same conclusion.I should have posted the answer. With your cap and what N1095A saw we can see that it is not the van. Thanks for the cap..
Funny thing, we were on the studio property. There was a fence on the street on the right side, seen in Torah, but the entry was completely open. The building I refer to as the guard shack in my pic was not the main entry, that was located to the left down the driveway. You can see it in the second photo.I have the feeling that was a gs to keep tabs on employee parking and production vehicles.
As we were walking down the driveway I did see the gs to the left and the van straight ahead but thought what the heck.Keep walking.I thought we had it made when got to within 15 feet of the van but that was as far as we got.We heard "Hello,Hello" and turned around to see this cat standing on the deck of the building. As we were walking back he informed us,in a nice way, that we were trespassing and would have to leave. As we headed back to the street I realized I hadn't taken a pic.The pic was taken from that spot and you can see the guard on the deck
