Wish Magnum was on Maui

#1 Post by bells »

The wife and I will be leaving for Maui on 10/22 for 2 weeks. I don't think I will be able to make a trip to Oahu to visit the estate... but I wish I could. Would love to swim in the tidal pool. I don't think they ever did actually film anything on Maui... did they?

I'm sure Ruber Chicken could let you know of any Maui locations. I'd love to make it over one year and check out some of the sites.

I can't recall if they ever did anything on Maui (written in the show).... although there is an ep where Rick and TC bought Land somewhere and wanted Magnum to buy in... I think it MAY have been Maui.

Crud.. I can't remember the ep. I want to say it was in either season 7 or 8, bc Rick and TC used a "Zack Morris" cell phone to call him..

(I'm failin ya, forum!)

I got your back Doc. The episode was Novel Connection (7.9), and it was Maui but I'm pretty sure it was just filmed someplace on Oahu.

Isn't Maui often mentioned as a destination? Either TC taking someone or something there, or Magnum or Higgins needing to go for some reason.

Anyway, I can't remember any real life locations on Maui, I'm kind of doubting there were any...

Hey Rubber Chicken, think you are right that although Maui was often mentioned as a destination, there was not any filming done there....well in any episodes I have seen. We go to Maui each year and I have never seen anything on the episodes which I could say is deffo Maui.

Cost wise, it wouldnt have made sense to move the production crew and film anything over on Maui, when the same kind of scenes could be filmed on Oahu.

Trust you have a wonderful holiday Bells, and dont forget to let us know about your trip, when you get back? That will be a really long trip for you!

Thanks Lily. We just bought a time share there and this will be the first time back there since 1987. Can't wait to get back there. You are right though... the flight from NY is brutal! I will take photo's and post some when I get back.

I am staying very close to Lahaina and plan to pay a visit to Maui Shirts to purchase TM's red jungle bird shirt! My kids should love that! They give me tons of grief for being such a Magnum fan. My oldest son who is 20 hasn't had the time to actually sit down and watch the show that often but my youngest son who is 14 has and actually has become a big fan!

Can't wait to come home with the shirt on to get his reaction!

If you have time take the ferry to Molokai. Rent a car for a day. Just got back from there. Definitely laid back. Did the 56th Molokai Hoe outrigger canoe race across the channel to Waikiki. What an event! TM would have loved it.

bells,

Did we ever get a report on your visit? Did you get the parrot shirt? Please fill us in.

(Since I just finished all the "Lost" episodes of the first four seasons, I'm having a serious Hawaii jones [withdrawal throes].)

Sorry I haven't updated anyone on my trip but I have been both desperately depressed and a little busy. Depressed because I had to come back to New York and reality, and busy because of the holidays.

My trip was great! I hadn't been back to Maui since 1987 and I couldn't believe the changes. Back in 1987 there wasn't much on the drive from the airport past Kaanapali. Now there is so much more commerce! We had a great time though. Somehow, I wish I could retire there some day. Right now I don't see how though... soooo expensive! Condo's going for $35K to $45K per week as timeshares.

We traveled over to Lanai for the day and did some snorkeling. It was absolutely beautiful! Hated to leave. Did some parasailing, cocktail sunset cruises, and checked out a number of hidden beaches. Basically we just relaxed on the beaches most of the time. We own a 2 bedroom timeshare at the Sands of Kahana Resort. What a place!

I ended up finding the Parrot Shirt from another shop in Lahaina, and of course I had to get one! My son got a big kick out of it. I will get arround to getting some pics up... I promise. I just love Maui! The wife and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Maui 25 years ago, and it was so cool going back there and seeing the place again. I can't wait to go back.

It's interesting to see that Magnum PI is still quite visible in the shops down in Lahaina. If anyone out there has not yet been to Hawaii... you need to get there. It is a paradise... and it is still in the good ole USA!!
