Magnum back on air!!!!!!!

Just found out that WPXS-TV out of the St. Louis area has signed onto the RTN (Retro Television Network) and is airing episodes weekdays at 2PM CST

We have a "Retro Station" here in Chicago that has so many old classic shows in it's Library that it now has added a second channel. These Stations even show old classic commercials inserted in the breaks of shows. They used to show Magnum, pi every afternoon, and even showed them, with a couple of minor exceptions, in original broadcast order. Alas, after going thru the cycle twice, they now just run the show on Saturdays but I expect (hope) it to come back daily sometime this winter.........

Here is a list of affiliates that carry the Retro Television Network. I like the concept. It's like TV Land on steroids. It looks like Magnum is running through Season Two right now.

I find it odd, however, that, with all the older shows they air, they choose to have Hip Hop Harry as part of their children's lineup! You think Barney is bad, well this guy (bear, whatever he is) takes it to a whole new level!* Why don't they air Seasame Street, or Romper Room reruns, or Bugs Bunny. Heck, The Krofft Superstar Hour would be a hundred times better than Hip Hop Harry!

* I have kids, this is why I know these things.

So James, what are your thoughts on "Yo Gabba Gabba"?

(I also play babysitter to a certain 2yr old and she LOVES IT. I kind of like it too. A hip hop spin on Sesame Street)

We have Magnum on on our WADL "Urban Television" (and yes, that is what they actually call it) station over here in Detroit which is quite odd, because you have "Good Times", "The Jeffersons", "The Wayans Brothers" and then at 10pm, Magnum.

I gotta say, they picked a winner!

With all the stuff on TV today, a few good episodes of the Jeffersons or Good Times is worth it! Follow up with Magnum?

LOL Doc! I havn't seen "Yo Gabba Gabba", but in checking out the show just now, the guy with the wig on his head kind of looks like J.J. from Good Times! LOL!

That's pretty funny about the "Urban Television" lineup. But you know, Magnum does have a little "urbanism" in it - Hotel Street, Club Hubba Hubba, "Little Saigon", London, L.A..

Don't forget the positive character Roger Moseley made T.C into, a War Veteran, Businessman, non-drinker, loved kids and coached them in sports, not the "Huggy Bear" pimpin' stylin' African American character that was showing up on some other shows. The show also had Chas. Floyd Johnson as an Exexutive Producer and Ivan Dixon as a Director. Perhaps not a ground breaking Show, but certainly did its part to break down walls..........

Retro has a new affiliate in the New York City area.

That means more Magnum for those of us too lazy to insert a DVD into a player.

Magnum was very Urban even though there were thousands of shots of beaches and palm trees. T.C. was not a stereotype, but he definetly represented African americans! He always had a sharp dress code, he was good at sports, had a repetoire of R&B songs to sing, and he always called Magnum "bwai". Also, he mentioned celebrating Kwanzaa with his kids on "Silent Night".

There were a couple episodes that featured Honolulu street gangs.
I'm sure that if MPI were a new show today, that there would be alot of Hip Hop influences!

It still looks like Time Warner Cable is the only way for me to get Retro TV. I am not giving up Directv. Oh well, I have seasons 1-8 on DVD.

It's all good cuz I have all the seasons! I'm still amused when MPI is on TV though. It takes me back to when I was a kid, and my Dad and I would watch the show over a couple of New York steaks!

WAOH TV-29 became our Cleveland/Akron RTV affiliate a few weeks back. I'm seriously loving it. Besides Magnum, I can watch Rockford, Quincy, Hulk, Emergency, and so many others shows they have for hours. RTV is what TV Land used to be, for me at least.

Since American Life TV is playing Hill Street Blues 4 times a week now, I just need ION to bring back Quantum Leap, and someone to start playing Miami Vice and Hunter again, and I'll be all set!

Does anyone think the Retro airing of Magnum P.I. seems kind of grainy? I feel like I'm watching a VHS tape. I don't remember the Sleuth airings looking like this, but then again I only saw 1-2 episodes on Sleuth before they took it off their lineup.
