Bill Bennett's Morning in America (Radio) - Magnum P.I.

#1 Post by J.J. Walters »

Check this out, Bill Bennett was discussing the merits of Magnum P.I. and Hawaii Five-O on his Morning in America* nationally syndicated radio program this morning (9/17). He apparently devoted a large chuck of the show to it, although I only caught the end. People were calling in with comments. It was great. Bennett admires both shows, but he was definitely strongly favoring HFO. They were conducting a poll as to which show was better, but I didn't catch the results.

One of the caller comments that I caught really cracked me up, however. Some guy said that Selleck was offered the role of McGarrett, but he had to turn it down because of his contract. :? And no one corrected him on it. Hehe.

Hawaiian Eye was also briefly discussed.

* I don't normally listen to Bill Bennett's show, but in scanning the AM dials I just happened to land on it as the words "Hawaii Five-O" came across the air wave!

An 11 minute audio clip is now up on Bill's website:

*streaming audio*

In hearing some of the parts I missed, it's now clear that Bill is not really a MPI fan (he's HFO only), his co-host "Seth" is the Magnum fan (even though he refers to Tanaka as "Taco").

The audio clip doesn't cover the entire discussion or call-ins. There were parts that I heard on the radio that are not covered in the 11 minute clip. It also appears that they also discussed MPI/HFO in yesterday's show (9/16), as well.

In any event, it's good to hear MPI and HFO being discussed on a nationally syndicated radio show!

Interesting audio clip...I found Mr. Bennett's interruptions kind of annoying. But it was nice to hear the discussion!

They were still talking about the shows on today's program. The poll was apparently still going on (with people emailing or calling in their picks). HFO was leading early, but now Magnum is "clearly out in front". Bill made some remark that he was conceding defeat. And they played the "Ivan Clip"! A slightly edited version, with the long pauses removed. That was really weird to hear that on the radio.
