Re: Lest We Forget (1.10)
Could any location sleuth help me with the location of the old brothel? The building with the long gallery out front?

Re: Photo Play (6.21)
MPI was quite awful for stereotypes. A beret-wearing urchin at Nice airport ? Really?

Re: Tom Selleck in Chaz TV commercial
Hello, people from the past. This is Croix de Lorraine writing from the future. I bet Bellisario was consciously or unconsciously inspired by this commercial when he decided to have Magnum drive a red Ferrari. By the way, the Opel GT was a nice little car in its own right. Nothing to be ashamed about.

Re: At what age did you discover MPI?
I was four when the show premiered and twelve when it ended but, even though I was vaguely aware of its existence and I loved action shows as a kid, I somehow managed to avoid watching a single episode either in its original run or on syndication. Then some years ago I saw Magnum PI mentioned in som...

Re: MIAMI VICE
I'm hearing that Vin Diesel might be doing a reboot of Miami Vice............ http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/miami-vice-reboot-vin-diesel-works-at-nbc-1026163 I read about the reboot a couple weeks ago. I don't know....Vice was such a product of it's time (much more so than Magnum), wha...

Re: The Equalizer
Actually I can imagine Higgins sucking up to McCall, exchanging military and secret service stories with him and badmouthing Magnum.

Re: The Trailer
I wonder if the producers just believe they have to be over the top for the younger audience. Think of the kind of movies that have been killing it in the box office in the last couple of decades: Transformers, X-Men...You show the average millennial a conversation between Magnum and Higgnis and af...

Re: The Trailer
"It was nothing earth-shattering. One day I woke up age 33, and realized I'd never been 23." Things are supposed to revolve around that. No time for that, Conch. Top priority is shoot 'em ups, car scenes and cutesy conversations between Higgins and Magnum to keep us wondering if she’s a big meanie ...

Of course, Tanaka couldn't be an unassuming older guy, he had to be some Asian male model.KENJI wrote:It will be interesting to see if the guy talking to Jay at the 1:42 mark will be Tanaka.

Re: The Trailer
The reboot is like a caricature of all that's wrong with modern Hollywood. Conch Republican summed it up best: NO SOUL. They COMPLETELY missed the spirit and the vibe of the series. A nuanced relation of grudging respect between two veterans? Boooo-ring. Let's make Higgins a hot babe and have lots o...

Re: Mac's Back (5.3)
One of the things about MPI was that it wasn't always an "all's well that ends well" type show where the good guy always wins, gets the girl and everybody recovers from their injury. Yes, there were lighthearted episodes that did follow this pattern but there were also more realistic (and somewhat ...

Re: Mac's Back (5.3)
It's not often I fault Tom Selleck's acting, but I don't think he's very good at acting depressed. He's all spaced out and lethargic and then he speaks and he sounds as energetic as usual, instead of sounding quiet, morose and low energy, like a depressed person would. Also, I think his pals overrea...

Re: Magim’s Fashion Faux Pas
I forgot one...flip-flops. Totally unacceptable. I've lived near the beach my entire life yet I've managed to do without ever owning a pair these horrible excuses for footwear. Unacceptable? Why? Living near the beach and being in the water are two different things. My wife was a competitive swimme...

Re: Magim’s Fashion Faux Pas
True. But a secure man also has standards he won't abandon even when societal opinions go against him. Ironically, your standards were created by societal opinions. Pink was considered a manly color before WWII. It made a come back in the 80s (70s?). Still going strong except for some sections of A...
