I don't know the hot water/coffee mug trick, but I think I can guess: wrap the strap around a coffee mug, and pour hot water into it, and repeat several times... is that it? Wow. Great review and photos. So grateful for the side by side comparison. Interesting to hear that the tropic is the harder material, like the one I have from Uncle Seiko. Interestingly, mine did get a lot more comfortable after time and the hot water/coffee mug trick.

I skipped Seiko because early on I was completely anti-quartz. At one point I decided I wanted a beater, so I got a Mathey-Tissot GMT (batman), and at this point I have a few quartz watches. I should get a Seiko -- they do have some nice diver watches... and, I agree -- they would work well for Mag...

I actually like a jubilee, but only on certain watches. It makes no sense, but a watch with a Pepsi bezel seems to look nice to me on a jubilee. Rolex GMT Master and/or Seiko diver, for example. I have a Seiko diver I like a lot. The biggest problem with Seiko is that they’re affordable.
