Honestly I never knew that the ring changed shape over is shape over the years. I know that there was a slight change from the overall look of the cross and a slight modification of the curvature but I've never seen a ring that was flat at least not in the original series.

Greatly appreciate the information and as soon as you mentioned the stucco I was lying like one of those oh yes moments lol. I can see where the illusion of sponge sponge of what is seen on camera actually is the stucco with the shadows makes more sense now.
