Obviously apropos of the passing of Jimmy Buffett, I have always thought that the Jimmy Buffett popularized beach bum lifestyle, vibe, etc isn't all that far from Magnum's vibe and lifestyle without the gunplay and international intrigue.

Magnum/Selleck and his Rolex "Pepsi" featured in Rolex World Magazine
If you're all about Magnum style, Rolex World Magazine has a spread on Tom Selleck and his apparent lifelong preference for Rolex and specifically the Rolex GMT Master "Pepsi". Lots of photos of his Magnum days with clear shots of the timepiece he helped popularize. https://www.rolexmagazine.com/200...

Did John Hillerman model Higgin's accent after Prince Charles?
I dunno, but when I heard Prince Charles make a statement after the death of his father Prince Philip, I had a flashback to Higgins making a speech. It just seemed like the same accent and even something his character would say in a similar situation. Did he model his British accent after the royal?...

Re: HODINKEE article on Magnum’s watches
According to watchuseek, the Seiko was seen in Mad Dogs and Englishmen, S6 E14, in a scene where they show a close up of Magnum trying to break into a locked desk drawer. Mistake, product placement, hand double for a part of the scene shot later? Theories abound. Supposedly, Magnum also wore this wa...

the redevelopment of Robin Master's estate
There's an article about development and coastal erosion around the former filming location of Robin Master's estate. They mention the storied history of that location, including the filming of Magnum PI and show quite a few pictures, some before and after the estate was torn down. Possibly worth a ...

Re: Jay Hernandez and Twitter
I lean far more towards Hernandez's politics than Sellecks. I still watched the original.
You shouldn't have to give up your constitutional right to freedom of expression just because you land the role of Magnum in the reboot.

Re: Season 1 Episode 5: Sudden Death (1.5)
This episode is probably the best so far. Extra points for its being TC centric and offering a nod to the original TC's coaching disadvantaged kids.

Re: Diversity
I've always been bothered by the fact that TC was made into this goody-goody, loyal, cautious citizen-soldier-businessman-doormat almost without flaws ("just a normal guy," right?). That's too bad because the charm and comedy in the relationships between all the characters was in how their flaws all...

Re: Anybody ever watch Burn Notice?
I liked Burn Notice as a kind of action/adventure fantasy. I would warm up to the new Magnum if it evolves over time to become something similar. A cartoon with heart, possibly. Burn Notice found itself over 7 seasons. Magnum so far has only the pilot out there for comparison. Hopefully it'll find i...

Anybody ever watch Burn Notice?
That's what the new Magnum P.I. is. It's Burn Notice in Magnum's old clothing. Instead of Miami, it's Hawaii. Instead of ex-CIA, it's ex-Navy Seals. Instead of two buddies, a girlfriend and mom, it's 2 buddies, Higgins, and Tinaka. You get the idea. Whatever it is, it isn't our old show. https://you...

Re: Interview with Tom Selleck about Magnum P.I. Reboot
I am a little disappointed in Selleck's response to Sidney Sheinberg's idea. While I understand Selleck's protectiveness towards the character and the series, sometimes you don't always get your way. I mean if Selleck had created or owned the character in some way, fine. But he was one of many who b...

Re: Looking for a cheaper alternative to the Pepsi GMT?
There are dozens of brands that make homages to the Rolex GMT-Master Pepsi that Magnum wore (and Selleck still wears). Squale makes a version for about $800. Steinhart makes one for about $600. But if you want a cheaper version of the real thing (that really isn't cheap), try the new Tudor GMT Pepsi...

Re: Tom Selleck on why he still wears his ‘Magnum P.I.’ Role
Just curious what gives it away that it was a 16750 and not a 1675?Bondtoys.de wrote: Seems that Selleck is a Rolex guy as he has the reference number ready.
However, I‘d like to double check with him, I am still convinced that he had a 16750 and not - like he says - a 1675.
