The Season Three episode "
Ki'i's Don't Lie" (original broadcast version), the
Simon & Simon crossover episode "
Emeralds Are Not a Girl's Best Friend" (1982) and Season Five's two-parter "
Echoes of the Mind", featuring
Sharon Stone. These bonus episodes are included in Region 1 only.
1 Regions 2 & 4 have completely different cover art than Region 1.
2 * The double-sided DVD's are problematic for certain DVD players (skipping, hanging, etc.), especially older ones. In July 2012, Universal re-released the Season One DVD set in the single sided format (without any bonus content).
3 Most of the commercial breaks are abridged.
4 The
original opening title sequence and
theme song have been restored for the first ten episodes, including the "Pilot Movie". In syndication runs, for most markets, they were replaced with the standard
Season One opening title sequence and the Post/Carpenter
iconic theme song.
5 Regions 1 & 2 have an error in the episode "
China Doll" (1.3). The music and audio is out of sync in several scenes.
6 The back of the DVD jacket says
"22 Explosive Episodes From The Action-Packed First Season! This is incorrect.
Season One had only 18 syndicated episodes. The other four episodes are the bonus episodes that come with the set, none of which are from Season One.
7 The Region 1 DVD incorrectly names the pilot as "
Please Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii".
8 The plastic trays which hold the DVDs are low quality and can cause difficulties in extracting the DVDs from the case. Some people have actually broken discs when attempting to remove them from the tray, so be careful!
The
A-Team (1983-1986) Season Two episode "
Diamonds 'n Dust" and the
Knight Rider (1982-1986) Season Two episode "
Brother's Keeper".
1 Regions 2 & 4 have slightly different cover art than Region 1.
2 * The double-sided DVD's are problematic for certain DVD players (skipping, hanging, etc.), especially older ones. In July 2012, Universal re-released the Season Two DVD set in the single sided format (without any bonus content).
3 Most of the commercial breaks are abridged.
4 The DVD case type has switched to the box set with
keep case style. Each disc is in its own plastic case, which slips into the cardboard "box".
The Season Four episode "
Letter to a Duchess".
1 Regions 2 & 4 have completely different cover art than Region 1.
2 The double-sided DVD's are problematic for certain DVD players (skipping, hanging, etc.), especially older ones.
3 Most of the commercial breaks are abridged.
4 For the first time in the
Magnum DVD series, nine DVD "Sneak Peaks" are featured in the Region 1 set (on Disc 1 only). The shows previewed are:
Northern Exposure,
Las Vegas,
Quantum Leap,
Battlestar Galactica,
House,
Law & Order,
Columbo -
McCloud -
McMillan & Wife (bundled together as one "sneak peek"),
Leave It To Beaver and
Miami Vice.
The Season Five episode "
Mac's Back" and the mini-documentary "
The Great 80's TV Flashback" (2006).
1 Regions 2 & 4 have slightly different cover art than Region 1.
2 The double-sided DVD's are problematic for certain DVD players (skipping, hanging, etc.), especially older ones.
3 Most of the commercial breaks are abridged.
4 Seven DVD "Sneak Peaks" are featured in the Region 1 set (on Disc 1 only). The shows previewed are:
Columbo,
House,
Murder, She Wrote,
Battlestar Galactica,
Northern Exposure,
Quantum Leap and
Sleuth (a digital cable television channel).
The Season Six episode "
The Treasure of Kalaniopu'u".
1 Regions 2 & 4 have slightly different cover art than Region 1, and the discs are double-sided.
2 For the first time in the DVD series, the discs are single-sided! Each disc also contains artwork on the backside. All five contain a nice shot of the Ferrari, and each has a different main cast member "head shot". Disc 1 is just the Ferrari, Disc 2 is Rick, Disc 3 is Higgins, Disc 4 is T.C. and Disc 5 is Magnum.
3 Most of the commercial breaks are abridged.
4 The case type is back to the
Digipak (or "hub") style, which replaces the box set
keep case style seen in Seasons 2-4. It should be noted that the plastic trays which hold the DVDs are much better quality than the ones used in the Season 1 set, which caused difficulties in removing the discs from the tray. The DVDs in this set can be extracted very easily.
5 Ten DVD "Sneak Peaks" are featured in the Region 1 set (on Disc 1 only). The shows previewed are:
American Gothic,
Battlestar Galactica,
Conviction,
Fear Factor,
House,
Kolchak: The Night Stalker,
Las Vegas,
The Munsters,
The Office (U.S.) and
Saturday Night Live.
The episode "
Little Girl Who" from Season Seven.
1 Regions 2 & 4 have slightly different cover art than Region 1.
2 The case type, like Season Five, is again the
Digipak (or "hub") style.
3 Most of the commercial breaks are abridged.
4 Like Season Five, the backside of each DVD contains an image of the Ferrari and one of the four main cast members.
5 Seven DVD "Sneak Peaks" are featured in the Region 1 set (on Disc 1 only):
Miami Vice,
Columbo,
House,
Northern Exposure,
Murder, She Wrote,
The Office (U.S.) and
Saturday Night Live.
The
Murder, She Wrote crossover episode "
Magnum on Ice" (Disc 2) and the mini-documentaries "
America's Top Sleuths" (Disc 5) and "Inside the Ultimate Crime Crossover" (Disc 2).
1 The DVD case type, like Seasons Five and Six, is the
Digipak (or "hub") style.
2 Most of the commercial breaks are abridged.
3 The backside of the DVDs are now plain red, with no artwork or cast member "head shots".
4 "America's Top Sleuths" runs 29:55 and highlights the
Top 10 Sleuths from the
Sleuth Channel's online poll. Veteran broadcast journalist
Keith Morrison narrates.
5 The "Inside the Ultimate Crime Crossover" mini-documentary is six minutes long and features commentary from
Angela Lansbury,
Robert Swanson (
MSW executive producer),
Chas. Floyd Johnson (
Magnum P.I. producer) and
Jay Huguely (
Magnum P.I. producer/writer).
6 There are no music licensing issues with this DVD. All of the original episode songs ("Since I Fell for You", "Mama", "Try A Little Tenderness", "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight", "Looking For Space") are included in the DVDs.
7 "
L.A." inexplicably omits a one-minute foot chase scene that includes
Playboy "Playmate of the Month"
Kimberly McArthur (January 1982) in a hot tub (at the 32:52 mark). This scene IS included in the standard syndication airings.
8 "
Novel Connection" is the original broadcast version, not the syndicated version. The syndicated version has a different ending, one that wraps up the events of the story so the
Murder, She Wrote crossover episode does not have to viewed.
9 "
Murder by Night" is the colorized version, not the original broadcast black-and-white version.
10 Eight DVD "Sneak Peaks" are featured in the Region 1 set (on Disc 1 only):
Northern Exposure,
Quantum Leap,
Law & Order,
Miami Vice,
Alias Smith and Jones,
The Rockford Files,
Monk and
psych.
The Season Five
Rockford Files episode "
White on White and Nearly Perfect" (w/ Tom Selleck).
Magnum P.I. writer/producer
Jay Huguely provides commentary on "
Pleasure Principle" and "
Legend of the Lost Art".
Magnum P.I. producer
Chas. Floyd Johnson provides commentary on the series finale "
Resolutions" (Part II only).
1 The DVD case type is again the
Digipak (or "hub") style.
2 Most of the commercial breaks are abridged.
3 For the first time in the DVD series, the audio is presented in Stereo (instead of Mono).
4 In early press releases for this DVD the syndicated version of Season Seven's "
Limbo" was to be included, but it never made it into the set, unfortunately.
5 The series finale "
Resolutions" is the syndicated version, not the original broadcast version. Several minutes of footage are missing in the Region 1 and Region 2 DVD, including most of the U.S. Naval Academy reunion scene, the entire scene with Magnum and Lt. Page at the estate tidal pool, and most of the
end credits montage sequence (with clips of scenes from previous episodes).
6 The backside of the DVDs are blue, with no artwork or cast member "head shots".
7 Seven DVD "Sneak Peaks" are featured in the Region 1 set (on Disc 1 only):
The Incredible Hulk,
Quantum Leap,
Miami Vice,
House,
The Rockford Files,
Monk and
Saturday Night Live.
None
1 The episodes included are the series pilot "
Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii" (2-parter), Season Two's "
Memories Are Forever" (2-parter), Season Four's "
Home From the Sea", Season Five's "
Blind Justice", Season Six's "
The Kona Winds", Season Seven's "
Limbo", and the series finale "
Resolutions" (2-parter). Total running time is 464 minutes.
2 Most of these episodes are the shortened, syndicated versions. "Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii" is missing the early scene with Alice Cook arriving at Honolulu International Airport drunk. "Memories Are Forever" is missing the opening scene with Magnum being chased by the Lads into Higgins' study (
"...like Little Eva on the ice floe."). Instead, it simply fads to Magnum taking pictures at the marina.
3 Part of a series of "Best of the 80s" DVDs released by Universal in 2011 which included
Knight Rider,
The A-Team and
Miami Vice.
