Not sure I can even describe why, but one of my favorite episodes. Just watched again last night

I agree totally. The flashbacks were so evocative of the period. The use of the son and daughter of the participating senior actors for the roles was inspired. The story also had shades of From Here To Eternity and Casablanca. Scatman Crothers cameo as Tickler was an added touch of class. It is a very memorable and cinematic episode. :)

I love the transition on the beach from 1984 to Magnum and the ferrari driving in. Can't help but smile. I was in Hawaii in 03 and visited Pearl Harbor. I ran back in to the gift shop as we were about to leave. I think the same path that Magnum runs to catch the escaping limo. Ever think about how Magnum takes the beer from Maku with him in the Ferrari. We never see it, but it is implied. Times have changed.

I remember that scene well with the beer. Times have changed! How about trusting a guy you just met to drive off with your granddaughter?

That transition you mention is another good example of the interesting photography used in the first season. We’ve had a few comments on that topic in the watch party thread.

Nice.

Thanks for the reminder.

I was also in Hawaii in ‘03 and the day we were headed for Pearl was such a disappointment. It was closed because The President had some last minute event there and it was closed to the public! We tried to make it another day, but an emergency at home cut out trip short.

I was thinking about this episode recently while watching the 1938 version of Christmas Carol, in which a very young June Lockhart appears. Just checked her IMDB page and she's worked as recently as 2021. Now that is a career!

Could any location sleuth help me with the location of the old brothel? The building with the long gallery out front?
