Magnum is the one who put that idea in Higgins' head. When Rick and TC show up to take Magnum to Maui, Magnum tells Higgins "They could be after YOU!" in an attempt to convince him to let Thomas take the case.

One of the worst eps, in my opinion. I never liked Murder, She Wrote or Angela Lansbury or Jessica Flethcher. Just blah.

So there are two versions of this episode, just like with 'Ki'i's Don't Lie', is it possible to upload the original version so we can see it?

You must just be watching the syndicated versions? On TV? The original is on the DVDs. At any rate, at the risk of Interpol tracking me down, here's the original:

If anyone knows where I can see the syndicated ending of Novel Connection, let me know, as I've never seen it.

At least Thomas was actually in this one, and didn't just "phone it in" like the Simon & Simon crossover.

Hi,
Check out the thread "Magnum on Ice", it has all the info you need. Though you just missed seeing the Murder She Wrote half, it will come around again.
I wouldn't dignify the last 5 minutes of Novel Connection by recounting it's totally bogus ending.
It's a cheat to the viewer and shows contempt for the audience, as the identity of the real "bad guy" demonstrates when he/she is revealed at the end of Magnum on Ice.
Watch the 2 episodes together, laugh at the crap ending of part one, then watch part two and pretend the last 5 minutes of part one never existed.
That way the story makes sense.

For me, as I can see, the original ending is much better.

I know it's been said on here that the syndicated wrap-it-up-in-one-hour version isn't worth watching....but just in case (like me) you're curious, Charge network is showing it at 1 Eastern/Noon Central next Monday, March 21.

Although aware of different versions, I was still confused by some the comments (Tanaka, karate chop) until I finally learned those are references to the second episode. :)

I watched on Amazon Prime, which has the one-and-done version. I did follow up with the MSW episode, though.

Regarding Magnum being snippy, I think that was a wink to the audience at Thomas' expense, in that he doesn't know, as WE do, that Jessica is indeed a skilled investigator, amateur or not.

Blooper: during the gunfight at the end, in two shots the bad buy is brandishing an automatic pistol that is empty. The slide is back.

I really liked how both parts (the Magnum episode and the Murder, She Wrote episode) each "felt" like their respective series, but Jessica and Magnum both seemed in character. Really sensetive writing I thought.
