The villa is located just north of the runway at Bellows Air Station. You can see two red roofed buildings at the point.

First i would like to warmly thanks Conch and his tech team who made a wonderful work with resetting (rather, mainly rebuilding from scratches, i guess  ) our board ! I like very much the new style of it !
You are most welcome! Still trying to "Magnum it up" a little more but I like this new format as well!

Hopefully this will put any issues to bed for a few years.

In the mean time . . . carry on!

After a little pause, we could resume our amazing exploratory tour of « Magnum PI mysterious filming locations'.

Here is « Misty 3' ! (drums rolls... I am somewhat theatrical, you know...)

This time let's study the case of a scene extracted from « 2.20 - The Last page » (one of second season's best episode, IMO).

Here we are : TC's Chopper just dropped Joey on what is supposed to be a 'lone private island' in hawaii archipelago... In spite of his allegations, Joey had no intention to exercise some lure fishing... if not with Claymore mine explosive...

https://ibb.co/RQKNwtj
https://ibb.co/2tnWwJB

… Of course, once again, we are facing the 'close to his pennies producer' theorem... Why sweating and spending filming on a godforsaken island if you could find a good (and cheaper) illusion on Oahu (relative...) wilderness ?

In the last shot, we could perceive what might be two landspots :

https://ibb.co/t8VmH00

On the other shot we could see a coast moutain.

By taking a virtual walk along Leeward shore (SW Oahu), I formulate the following hypothesis :

a/ the moutain.hill could be Maili Point.

b/The (very high) funnel is from some sort of factory – why not Hawaiian Electric Kahe Power plant ?

b/ what looks like a bunker entrance from the distance is the 'Battery Arizona » - Kahe Point ( Restricted acess ).

« Battery Arizona (1943-1948) - Battery Arizona was a reinforced concrete, World War II 14 inch coastal gun battery on Kahe Point Military Reservation, Honolulu County, Hawaii. This battery was constructed using a U.S. Navy triple gun turret removed from the sunken battleship USS Arizona (BB-39). Named Battery Arizona on 21 Oct 1942. Battery construction started in 1943 and was almost completed 1 Aug 1945 when construction was halted. The Battery was placed in caretaker status at the end of the war and abandoned by 1948.

(…)

Current status : Underground structures largely intact the site is the on the Waimanalo Gulch Landfill. Restricted access. Fire Control Station now has a locked door to secure the upper ladder access. Lower entry gate's access "hole" had been blocked. No period guns or mounts in place. «

http://www.fortwiki.com/Battery_Arizona

For a virtual tour :

http://kenjisaito.com/battery-arizona/

As you could see, Pearl Harbor attack events are often connected to MPI stories...

So here is a little localisation :

https://ibb.co/gwrgGvZ

Let's attemps a triangulation :

https://ibb.co/8Kx2tF1

The area corresponding to Ko'olina coast and Milo Cove knew lots of landscapes changes. In the late 80's, the Ko Olina Resort property was purchase by american-japanese joint venture business partners. The land was modified with extensive earthworks and the building of 'built the four man-made lagoons, marina basin, golf course and all infrastructure'.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ko_Olina_Resort

Residential housing grew up accordingly.

Here is a USCG satellite view dating from the late 70's. You can notice the area was still wild and free from touristic facilities/résidential amenities.

The red circle is an attempt to materialize a reasonable guess for the filming location.

https://ibb.co/pzLJMGT

Of course that is only an assumption...

Nevertheless, as a confirmation, concerning the following scene where Higgins/General Kam meeting is taking place, MM website indicates it was taken at 'Paradise Cove, Ko'Olina Resort (SW Oahu)'. So the chopper's 'drop zone' is unlikely to be far away from that place, within the red circle.

As always any other research, statement, guessing is warmly welcome !

Thanks for reading !

For my last season two review, I propose a final stop at « 2.20 - The Last Page ».

As we recalled previously, MM website locate General Kam Fung meeting with Higgins at Paradise Cove, Ko'Olina Resort (SW Oahu).

https://ibb.co/jDrf7Gn
https://ibb.co/47Tq4qs
https://ibb.co/cvDjftz

We know also that the place was deeply modified through the late 80's and 90's to incorporate a complete tourisitc resort that 'disfigured' the shoreline (from my point of view).

Here is a focus from the previous1977 satellite view, pointing the 'triangulated' dropping zone :

https://ibb.co/wgWqbbQ

And then, today, the actual site and possible location for both the dropping point and the meeting.Unfortunately i am unable to be more accurate.

https://ibb.co/6ysLt9K

I also add what is much more easy to spot : the helo landing pad at Waikiki from where TC Hugues 500 picked up Joey earlier in the episode and three times through season two :

https://ibb.co/jkStCwz
https://ibb.co/rZS1V1f
https://ibb.co/5Wp7Gpy

The area is used as an extended parking today, overlooking Kahanamoku Beach, North of Fort deRussy Beach

https://ibb.co/HXkcnGp
https://ibb.co/WBrWMP5

Again, thanks for your interest in this thread !

3.2 'Did you see the sunrise ? '

RubberChicken has accomplished an excellent job of digging up almost all the locations for the shooting of this episode. You could consult his guide here (last version):

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=908&start=174

However, I do have one comment and one potential addition to make.

Regarding the property represented as the Bulgarian Consulate, it is indeed more than likely that RB was right in assigning it to 1990 Judd Hillside Road.

A house of 5 beds, 3 baths on a 3 979 sq.ft. Estate, built in 1931 and last sold in 1972.

However, this cannot be confirmed without further investigation and clear photograph of the mansion through the foliage... Indeed, as you can see, the location has changed a lot since the episode.

From 1982 episode

https://ibb.co/ydCGtn4

today
https://ibb.co/bHwH7M8
https://ibb.co/PM25nFP
https://ibb.co/DMN9pgJ

One remains to be discovered: the location of the ambush which involves the mercedes of Ric. It is our 'Misty Location' number 4 !

https://ibb.co/TLBsk6g
https://ibb.co/yfPZhC2
https://ibb.co/58jwNyy
https://ibb.co/98YySCT

Starting from the location of the consulate and following the sinuous roads that runs along and up along the heights of Manoa, Round top Reserve or Tantalus Belvedere, I found only three 'candidates'.

https://ibb.co/5WVYw4N

from left to right

Location 1 – maikiki heights

https://ibb.co/GQrKm2w

Location 2 – 2198 Round top Drive

https://ibb.co/JqWRK1W
https://ibb.co/3zhb5Fh

Location 3 – 3202 Round top Drive

https://ibb.co/WBr1zHC
https://ibb.co/Mg8j7m3

For me, it is this last location that is the most likely, even though the view in 2019 seems much more clean and maintained than it was in 1982. Note, on the right, the entrance to Pu'u Ualaka'a Park.

This park offers many species of trees and floral varieties. It is, besides, perhaps, the location of the so famous final scene !

Any more idea ?

Thanks for reading !

Back from our trip to discover (or rediscover?) the locations of our cult serie!
Today, I propose you to review the locations where the camera was set for episode 3.4: "the Eighth part at the village".
Some of these locations have already been the subject of previous posts throughout the history of the forum... As usual, I've made my task a bit more complicated by throwing myself 'headfirst' into my research, believing that I've found what not already present, for the most part, in the very rich past of the forum!

1- The delivery warehouse of a very strange parcel.

https://ibb.co/vLz6TGq

On this extract we can see, on the other side of the water, two examples of USCG cutters (Hamilton class). The first one is (hull number 225) the USS Jarvis.

https://ibb.co/0ZW6ZVd

These vessels entered service in 1967 and displaced about 3,200 tons.
Today, the USCG deep-sea cutters are still located at the same pier that corresponds to the USCG HQ - 400 Sand Island parkway. That's our first clue.

Second hint : here we see, in backlight, the Aloha Tower of Honolulu's commercial port and three buildings.

https://ibb.co/b2BhFQ5

The only pier that would correspond to the distance and the angle of view would be Pier 29 (map below).

https://ibb.co/8rFgGxK
https://ibb.co/mT3JBgr

2- Roy Chambers' presumed hideout

I found this one very quickly since you can see very well on these two pictures the Ala Wai Canal and the McCully Road Bridge.

https://ibb.co/9TfcPZx
https://ibb.co/hcN3pcg
https://ibb.co/ZczvSB5
https://ibb.co/3mKmPGj
https://ibb.co/fpJzPxM

1965 Ala Wai Canal Blvd

https://ibb.co/YZzCrHY

But I can't take any credit, because other wise experts had found it long before me! For completeness, I quote this place and I refer to the topic concerned.

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=130&start=54

One can only note how this house, rather decayed in the episode, is in 'dashing' condition nowadays.

3- The Pool Club Cebu in Chinatown

https://ibb.co/qxXDjBh
https://ibb.co/9sJxDLF
https://ibb.co/xSQD7ty
https://ibb.co/4sVdqWd

Found a long time ago on this forum: I join it here for completeness.

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=130&start=33

Apparently, the original building was demolished and replaced. It seems that there is a Chinese restaurant in its place.

https://ibb.co/2ht24cg

Once again, one can only be astonished of the very good state of this place today... We are far from the "cut-throat" of 1982!

4- Honolulu Zoo

https://ibb.co/qj52287
https://ibb.co/Dgy5xTv

This is of course not the hardest place to locate in Oahu, but I didn't find any reference to it in the latest version of the RC guide, so I add it here. Of course, 40 years have passed and the zoo has been transformed a lot, especially to make it more recreational.
However, I had fun with this little montage...

Very nice old VW van ! Much like T.C.'s. Let me guess: each time you go hiking in the Mountain or in a natural reserve, you add a sticker ?

You just have to spray a fresh tri colors paint and add an Island Hopper Vinyle and that is it ! :magnum:

As some may know, finding locations is not an end in itself... The goal is also to better integrate the idea of a 'time capsule' around Magnum PI. At least, that's my idea. You don't have to agree.

The idea is also to better understand and apprehend the history of Hawaii through the arrangement of its spaces in time. In this sense, there is, from my point of view, truly a 'documentary' aspect in Magnum PI...

Many scenes take place in Chinatown and the old working-class neighborhoods around North Street. This neighborhood has undergone an important and rather brutal transformation since the end of the 1970s. Today, we no longer find the slum and decrepit side that we can see in the episodes. Today it looks much more like touristy district or the standard of living, but also the cost of living appears much higher ...

I found here an interesting article on the net that tells this story of Chinatown: between urban renewal and the loss, or even destruction, of a typical housing and a community of life. According to this article, the public authorities at the time, perhaps influenced by the business community and developers, thought they could solve the problem of overhousing by encouraging, evicting, legally expropriating the inhabitants (about 2,000) of Chinatown and implementing a major urban renewal program. In doing so, the article argues (it is a point of view) that this program was also harmful by precipitating the degradation of the standard of living of these inhabitants with modest resources and by destroying, in the end, a completely original social and community group.

https://www.hawaiipeoplesfund.org/wp-co ... NATOWN.pdf

According to this article, this urban regrouping has mainly benefited rich entrepreneurship, traders and businessmen more wealthy. Retired people, small workers and shopkeepers who were expropriated often did not have sufficient income to sustain the costs of their relocation.

I don't do politics, it's just for historical interest.

It’s not an atypical story, historically speaking. The Chinatowns in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Portland are not in their original locations for some of the same reasons you describe above. The time frames are all different though. I believe the same is true of Seattle but I’m not certain.

Panohu, you are absolutely right about the reproducibility of this phenomenon. In France, we have several famous examples.

One of the best known is the evolution of the Paris Butte Montmartre neighborhood (from modest shopkeepers, cabaret owners and quarry workers to rich showbusiness artists, landowners from the tertiary sector and international finance) from 1860 to today.

At the end of the 19th century, Montmartre offered the lowest rents in Paris!
