One word: lawyers.
I'd add another: insurance.

This one wasn't great...but it was decent. The whole Potchismo Cologne thing was hilarious---and the banter between Magnum, T.C., and Higgins about the horrible smell always has me rolling! Little Garwood was also so cute you had to watch to see him get saved. :)

But, the rest of the episode is kind of silly and even irritating at times. Never been a huge Pat Hingle fan--most of his roles were loud-mouthed and annoying. He played another recurring loud-mouthed "jerky" professor guy in a couple seasons of the original "Hawaii Five-0".

He and Eugene Roche (Luther Gillis) both a lot of times played "blustery", loud-mouthed, annoying characters...they each reminded me of the other. :?

I liked this episode. By no means is it one of my favorites but I thought Pat Hingle was a really good guest star and the episode had a somewhat unbelieveable yet entertaining plot. I don't think I'm alone in saying that the greatest thing for me about this show was the main characters and their interactions, not the guest stars, the plots that can sometimes be picked apart, and certainly not the flubs! I liked seeing a mystery that TM picked apart and solved, with some funny and rather obvious stunt double action at the end!

When Magnum & Higgins were watching the tv news report, did anyone else notice the tv was set to channel 3? My thought is what they were actually watching was a videotaped newscast, made for this episode obviously. If I recall correctly, didn't you have to set your channel to channel #3 to connect to your VCR?

Also, when TM was at the lawyers office and peeked thru the broken glass, he said "I'll be back!" Was this an homage to the Terminator movie?

I wouldn't think so as "The Terminator" wouldn't open until a month after this episode aired. Look like another case of "Magnum" being ahead of the curve.

It's made clear in the conversation that Higgins recorded it to show Magnum.

I know you posted this a long time ago, but Cheers had already been on the air for two years when this episode aired. Having his partner named Norm was most likely a nod to Cheers.

I think that stuntman is Geraldo Rivera.

Likely for insurance reasons. The stuntman was totally obvious in this episode. And Higgy Baby's stuntman is totally apparent in many episodes also.

solid episode. they all can't be high drama/high intensity stories. This works for me.

Stuntmen were poorly filmed in this one.........

I noticed something on this episode after I saw it was directed by Vince McCeevety - he directed the Star Trek episode "Spectre of the gun" in which Chekov takes on the persona of Billy Claiborne - which is the name of Garwood's lawyer.

Co-incidence ? Probably. :)

I like the fact that John Ratzenberger's characgter has a friend called "Norm" just like in Cheers, and that Norm was played by the guy(Dic Durock) who dressed up as Imperious Leader in another Glen Larson production Battlestar Galactica.

Gripe ? Why was Nancy DeCarl playing a red head ? Booo ! Blondes rule.

I can't say this was any better than average and I rated it as such. But seeing Pat Hingle was pretty funny along with Cliff the mailman from Cheers lol. Playing poker with Norm? Ha ha ha
I loved seeing Magnum in a full Tigers outift, awesome! And for me, the pachismo incident Helped move along this rather boring episode. Loved that TM tried too much and everyone's reaction to it was hilarious. Also the end fight scene was pretty funny as it was painfully obvious that it was the stuntman and not Selleck doing the fighting. When he falls into the boxes and "ugh pachismo" ha ha ha ha I die laughing every time. Overall a very average one for me but by no means bad as any Magnum is always going to have some good points.

Not a great one but not awful Pat Hingle was a good guest star just found the story kindve boring and predictable. The best parts for me:

Magnum in his full on authentic Tigers uniform.

The PACHISMO incident ha ha ha ha ha!
