Magnum stuff spotted in Jesse Stone movies

#1 Post by N1095A »

We know TS wears the Rolex from MPI in the Jesse Stone movies. Last weekend there was a Jesse Stone Marathon on TV, and I also caught him wearing the brown Ray Ban Shooters that TM wore in episodes after his regular shooters got broken, I believe in "Solo Flight". Also he wore the USN Leather jacket that looked a LOT like the one TM wore in "All For One", and "Going Home".
I would love to ask TS what he still has from Magnum.
"But Higgins, I can explain."

I've noticed a lot of stuff, and dialog. "Fate wouldn't do that to me" from Benefit of the doubt being the latest.
The information's out there. All you have to do is let it in.

I just made a post in another thread and also mentioned the Rolex watch with the "pepsi" bezel. I actually wonder if it's Selleck's personal watch because it looks well worn. I saw it in several episodes but one really good shot of it (and the condition of it) is in the third film (Death in Paradise) at about the 12:34 mark when there is a close up of Stone drinking coffee.

I've noticed as well, some of the things others have noticed. A couple more are:

-Jesse having played pro-baseball, and Magnums love of the game.
-Magnum referring often to "living in paradise", and Jesse being the Police Chief of Paradise, Massachusetts.

And in general, some of Selleck's mannerisms are very "Magnum like".

I believe you're missing the biggest connection: When police officer Suitcase Simpson comes out of his coma, he utters the phrase, "A pint of Stout." Sound familiar?

I love how they've found a way to insert the Easter Eggs into the show. It makes it way more fun for viewers like me and shows that they care about the history.

How about in Innocents Lost, Jesse is watching Bridge on the River Kwai, the scene where the bridge is blown up.

I just found this thread. That's a pretty neat catch, "a pint of stout".
I haven't seen a Jesse Stone movie in quite awhile, haven't noticed it on any channel.
I missed the last few movies when they were first shown.
Can anyone tell me if they were still well made entertainment, or did they go down hill and thats why no more were made?

I think they’re all well made tv films. I could be wrong but I’d think TS commitments to Blue Bloods may be the reason for no more JS movies.

I'm glad the quality held up. Of course you are right, Selleck had to do the Blue Bloods series. Boy am I dumb.

I have the DVDs. Some people think they’re on the depressing side but I enjoy them. In comparison with most shows where the sun always shines on TV I think these to be quite representative of real life. I also enjoy the guest stars which are usually ones who are now older but I watched over the years growing up.

3 Jesse Stone TV movies were filmed while Blue Bloods was in production with the last in 2015. Selleck still has 1 more movie commitment with Hallmark, which would be the 10th Jesse Stone TV movie. Though Selleck has stated that he intends to do a 10th and final movie, odds are that after 9 years since the last movie, it may not happen as Selleck is currently 79 years old.
